Its easy to say they should have been kept apart, but how much longer could it have been done without it becoming old and repetitive? Another season with a different boy/girlfriend? A post season 3 breakup?

At least Jim and Pam getting together allowed the rest of the cast to get more of the spotlight.

A bigger issue to me was that Pam should have never left reception. Once she went to sales, they changed her character to make her fit, and the show was worse off for it.

Agreed. I have no problem with them getting together. And the way the show did it was honestly pretty great. And the wedding episode is one of the best episodes of the series.

But Pam leaving for MSPC and then transitioning into sales was much worse than anything else with her character (sans sound guy stupidity).

This.

Of course Jim and Pam weren’t as good in the later seasons. The whole show was worse, so why would they be any different.

I respect the fact that they had the guts to resolve the plot line and not drag it out for 8 seasons. That would have been so much worse.

I agree with all of this. Part of the charm of Pam was her sweetness and ability to be strong when she had to. When she became bitter towards Jim about him being in Philly her character became more of negative aspect of Jim than a positive aspect of herself. They killed her character and made her something Jenna Fisher I don’t think was capable of being. Pam wasn’t Jan for example. That’s not who she was but they tried to make her that way.

And don’t get me started on Russ from SV. That whole thing was so cringe I get pissed thinking about it. Totally out of left field and solidified the abortion that was Pam’s character shift.

Never thought about it like that but I think I agree with it. The first episode I ever saw of the show was Dinner Party and she was awesome in that. I remember thinking she seemed sweet and knowledgeable about sports (the Joe Montana reference), and also kind of a smartass but in the cute way.

And then eventually she changed completely. Some of the stuff that bothered her in the marriage were things that didn’t really fit her character. Especially considering the sacrifices Jim made for her and the family over the years.

I mean, even bitch Pam would never have gone over to sound guy Bryan’s house alone when there could be any sort of innuendo involved. Not even close. Yet they crammed that storyline in anyway.

It's kind of boring now that they're together

By the end, Angela was a far funnier and more interesting character.

If you think about it, the real arc of the show was Dwight & Angelas relationship and not PB&J.

The show ended with them finally being together happily ever after (although they neutered Dwight a bit in that last season).

Same. I thought they were still good on the show even after they were officially coupled. Michael is the true heart and soul of the series, and everyone else served to support him. Once they became the forefront is when the show tanked.

I'm old enough to remember when Moonlighting, a dramedy built around the romantic tension between co-workers Bruce Willis & Cybill Shepherd, immediately went into the shitter ratings-wise after they had them hookup.
