People have been plugging their ears for 30 years on Woody Allen.
You're in good company.
Running off with your girlfriend's adopted daughter who is 35 years your junior is all kinds of messed up.

It was karma for what Mia did to Dory Previn who I’m guessing the doc doesn’t discuss.

People bandy about the term “elites”. They’re usually branding the segment of that group that disagrees with them. Millionaires and celebrities on the other side are elites, looking down on the rest of us. The ones that agree with you? Just working class folks that made good.
Hollywood turned on Allen years ago. Even those that appeared in his movies are distancing themselves and apologizing for their involvement. He’s far from the beloved darling of Hollywood that he was a decade ago.

Uhh so which ones? In the last 4 years alone he's made 3 movies with the likes of Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez, Jude Law, Diego Luna, Liev Schreiber, Gina Gershon, Christoph Waltz, Jim Belushi, Justin Timberlake , and Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet: “It’s like, what the frick was I doing working with Woody Allen and Roman Polanski?”
Rebecca Hall: Donated her wages from her Allen film to Times Up. "I regret this decision and wouldn’t make the same one today."
Timothée Chalamet: "I'm not able to answer the question directly because of contractual obligations. But what I can say is this: I don't want to profit from my work on the film, and to that end, I am going to donate my entire salary to three charities: TIME'S UP, The LGBT Center in New York, and RAINN."
Rachel Brosnahan: “Honestly, it's the decision that I have made in my life that is the most inconsistent with everything I stand for and believe in, both publicly and privately.”
Colin Firth: “I wouldn’t work with him again."
Hayley Atwell: "Would I work with him now? No. And I stand in solidarity with his daughter and offer an apology to her if my contribution to his work has caused her suffering or made her feel dismissed in any way."
Michael Caine (Introduced Woody to Mia): " I don’t regret working with him, which I did in complete innocence; but I wouldn’t work with him again, no."
David Krumholtz: "I deeply regret working with Woody Allen on Wonder Wheel. It's one of my most heartbreaking mistakes. We can no longer let these men represent us in entertainment, politics, or any other realm. They are beneath real men."
Griffin Newman: "I need to get this off my chest:
- I worked on Woody Allen’s next movie.
- I believe he is guilty.
- I donated my entire salary to RAINN."
Elliot Page: "I did a Woody Allen movie and it is the biggest regret of my career. I am ashamed I did this."
Peter Sarsgaard: Sarsgaard said that though he’d appeared in Blue Jasmine, he wouldn’t do another Allen film.
Mira Sorvino: (In a letter to Dylan) "I am so sorry, Dylan! I cannot begin to imagine how you have felt, all these years as you watched someone you called out as having hurt you as a child, a vulnerable little girl in his care, be lauded again and again, including by me and countless others in Hollywood who praised him and ignored you. As a mother and a woman, this breaks my heart for you. I am so, so sorry!"
And Greta Gerwig, who with her husband Noah Bombach have made a living making Woody Allen type films, lifting scenes and themes from Allen's films: "If I had known then what I know now, I would not have acted in the film. I have not worked for him again, and I will not work for him again. Dylan Farrow’s two different pieces made me realize that I increased another woman’s pain, and I was heartbroken by that realization."

Wonder Wheel and A Rainy Day in New York were both held for 2 years before being dumped onto a streaming service without any publicity.
His newest, Rifkin's Festival, does not have and likely will not get American distribution. It screened at festivals almost a year ago, so it appears to be another hold and dump, or just hold. The biggest name in the cast is Steve Guttenberg. Since filming Rainy Day in 2018, it's clear bigger names are wary of working with Allen, as detailed in Fewer's post. Christoph Waltz apparently has a cameo, but he's European, which matters for the below reason. This also wrapped filming in 2019, as Allen allegations were heating up and most of those actors were apologizing for working with him. He hasn't filmed anything since, which is pretty significant for a director whose filmed a movie per year since the 70s.
Allen has been funding his movies with almost exclusively European money since the turn of the century. It's been since probably Curse of the Jade Scorpion in 2001 that Hollywood gave him any money other than for distribution rights, which come after the movie is done filming and go to the European studio producing.
Hollywood studios turned on Allen decades ago. The actors took longer, but it's clearly happened in the past 3 years. He hasn't made a movie of any notice since 2013, and I'd guess the only thing keeping him in the minds of people who don't care about Allen anyway is this doc.

My wife is from NY and I have a large number of in-laws from there. This is objectively false.
There is a group of folks that do, no doubt about it, but not the state collectively. Not even close. Vast majority do NOT like him. Seinfeld is more of the "universally beloved" category.

What about Sun Yi? Karma for her too? What's the rule on older men dating younger women? Half your age plus 7 or it's creepy?
Allen was 56. That would have made her 21. Even WITHOUT having the Farrow/dependent connection, it's fricking weird. The dude ain't right.
Interesting hill you choose do die on.
Farrow is clearly missing a few marbles--but no one reveres her.

She’s looked up to as an actress, as Allen is as a director. I don’t think anyone is going to pattern their personal lives after either.
As for Soon Yi, knowing that her mom married a man 30 years older when she was college aged probably helped enable any “grooming” that took place. Also seeing that 70 year old guy come back around to hit on her 40 year old mom wouldn’t help.
