A lot of people talking about Hugh Laurie from House, but Jesse Spencer is Australian (yes, not British but still has an accent!)

I didn't either until about 6 seasons into House. I thought he was just faking the British accent in Flight of the Pheonix.

well, to be fair, it's different. supposedly in the UK, another brit can tell (1) where you're from and (2) your social class after 5-10 seconds of speaking. we don't have that in America. gaining that full proficiency of the region/class is probably impossible
there are like a thousand different accents in the UK, it's crazy

however, I think it's fairly easy to tell what region of the country you are from, except for certain regions in the pacific northwest where it almost seems completely nonregional

Christian Bale, but I think he's welsh?

He's English, but born in Wales. Crazy, but it happens.

And English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland protestants all consider themselves British.

True enough, there are way more British accents than most Americans would believe.

we don't have that in America.

Nonsense. We may have slightly less class basis to our accents but we do pick up on other American's standings by their accents about as quickly as Brits do.

Paternal grandfather is Jamaican - one of his grandmothers is Swedish.

From his wiki:

He has portrayed characters from several British regions, including Cockney, a Geordie, a Scouser, and a Scotsman; a 19th-century New York gang member, a Chicago mobster, a Brooklyn mobster, a Texan, and the short-fused British nationalist "Combo", in This is England.
