You're from the South, and you have to ask this question?

He started a war that resulted in the deaths of over 600,000 Americans.

He is solely responsible for the Federal government gaining the power to subjugate the states.

Suspended habeas corpus.

He pissed, shite, and vomited on the Constitution at every turn.

Do you need more?

Absolutely, without question, the worst president America has ever had. Jackson comes a close second.

The fact that either of those men have their pictures on our currency is a travesty.

I assume you didn't know it was a book....

The book was fairly interesting, and it seems like it would make for an entertaining movie (though not horribly thought provoking). It seems like it will just be a silly popcorn flick. Don't take life so seriously.

Real movie. Prequel to William McKinley Werewolf Slayer. The third film in the trilogy will combine both. After their assassinations the two presidents return from the dead to save the country from an allegiance of vampires and werewolves. Hugh Jackman to play McKinley. Kate Beckinsale costars.

I just have a weird feeling that in 30 years when our kids Google "Abraham Lincoln" the first thing that comes up is this POS.

You're right. That is a weird feeling.

Well, in deference to your ethnicity, I can understand why you might believe the myth of Honest Abe rather than reality. The truth is he was a politician who used the black people as a tool to get re-elected.

quote:

"I am not now, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social or political equality of the white and black races. I am not now nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor of intermarriages with white people. There is a physical difference between the white and the black races which will forever forbid the two races living together on social or political equality. There must be a position of superior and inferior, and I am in favor of assigning the superior position to the white man."

quote:

"I thought that in your struggle for the Union, to whatever extent the negroes should cease helping the enemy, to that extent it weakened the enemy in his resistance to you. Do you think differently? I thought that whatever negroes can be got to do as soldiers, leaves just so much less for white soldiers to do, in saving the Union.

He was a tyrant. John Wilkes Booth did the nation a favor. There's no telling what that man would have done...

I know it has some supporters on this board but IMHO one of the more ridiculous premises for a movie I could imagine.

You can argue that his election was the direct cause of secession but those idiots in South Carolina fired the first shot. There was a chance at a non-violent standoff and an eventual peaceful resolution until Sumter. In other words, I blame it on Spurrier.

If I'm not mistaken, 7 states peacefully seceded under Buchanan. When Lincoln was elected, he began to raise the Union military in force. 4 more states seceded as a direct result of what they saw as tyranny. This led to an escalation on hostilities, and any hope of a peaceful resolution was obliterated.

But hey, this is a movie board and not a history board.

My youngest son had to do a book report on a president. We used this book and he got a C. His report was dead on but his reference material failed. Mrs TH says I can never help him with another project.
