When austins glass shattered you know shite was going down...same with taker and the gong.

All of the biggest stars of the attitude era had a very distinctive opening of their entrance music that immediately caused a huge pop in the crowd due to immediate recognition which caused other crowds to follow suit after watching on tv and ramped up the crowds so much.

DX :Are you ready, oh you didn’t know?
Austin:glass
Rock:voice
Jericho: countdown
Foley: car crash
Taker: gong
Vince: opening of no chance
Edge: you think that you know me

Even the mid carders like Val Venis and 2 Cool had very distinctive openings that got the crowd to pop.

So what does the WWE do? Go to a bunch of very similar sounding generic bullshite metal for the foreseeable future

I think that was one thing that hurt the WCW as well. Outside of the NWO and maybe DDP, I don't remember any other WCW entrance themes. I don't think they ever played them loud enough.

Hell, just to add on to your WWE list, Angle, Tazz, Brood, Hardy Boyz. I know some of those are past the Attitude Era, but they were still distinctive

Goldberg's was good but I agree, not many were good or loud enough.

Yeah, forgot Goldberg's and I liked Raven's too but that was more just because I liked him as a wrestler (his WWE intro may have been better over the Nirvana WCW ripoff).

A lot of WCW's had a long build-up, mixed in with the volume was so low on them it took forever to figure out who it was

Heat and Flair (who had a long build-up to his intro until they added his Woo at the start) are up there as well. They just needed to blast those things like WWE did

Thought the Piper episode could have been a lot better, but not having him here for an interview kind of limits you I guess.

I thought this episode lacked the same intensity and aura that the Austin one did. Piper was special. I always thought Piper had the most charisma and acting ability as anyone in the business. He also had such a badass look on his face every time he entered the ring.

The way WWE/Vince/A&E edited this shite about the Roddy Real Sports interview and how he was just being honest about the business and how it killed all his friends is just unreal, but also just so predictable. Vince acting like Rod was "lashing out" and all that BS is so typical of the company now. Rod was being brutally honest (and was also deadly correct about his own mortality) and they didn't want to hear it.

They also left out the part about Vince basically firing him in the late 80s because he did They Live with John Carpenter and not some dogshit WWF No Holds Barred-type D-list movie written by Vince is just laughable. McMahon actually gave Roddy the Ultimatum... Either do a movie with us and stay or go do They Live and you're gone. Rod told them they couldn't make something as good as John Carpenter could make so he went an made a classic.

Also having Hogan talk about a guy not wanting to job for someone is even more laughable. Roddy hated Hogan and he basically got more screen time on this doc than Rod's family. They should have had JR on again because he's such a good storyteller and poetic about pro wrestling, plus was friends with Piper. They really dropped the ball on this one.

I expect them to screw up the Savage one next week as well.

Watched the Piper one tonight. I liked it. I forgot just how good he was at being an a-hole. I remember both hating and loving him as a little kid.

I never knew about the Hogan voicemail thing. That is weird and cool at the same time.

I watched it last night. I kept trying to realize why all of his interview clips were from several years ago. So stupidly I googled him and realized he was dead. I was taken back, because I never remembered hearing that he died.\
I enjoyed the episode.

I also enjoyed the Kane/Undertaker Treasures show that came on after it.

I don't understand how Piper did not become one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood.

He was a phenomenal actor... I would say he's by far the best acting pro wrestler and he had charisma and screen presence for days. They Live should have set him off into the stratosphere but it didn't... And I still don't really know why.

Cause he was also in stuff like Hell Comes to Frogtown, Immortal combat, didnt draw audiences on film and probably wasn't easy to get along with..was kinda too awkwardly Canadian for Hollywood..or new york.

From the Brood & Hardy Boys to Goldust, Bret Hart & Shawn..Jim Johnston was on top of his shite making all those iconic themes from 1985 on.

A good entrance in the late 90s was sometimes 40% of your performance

I used to have all the WWF music/Jim Johnston CDs. My favorite entrance music was The Undertaker but surprisingly not the original bells but the one he had when he was doing The Ministry angle. I liked the guitar riff and it was still ominous but more energetic

Ministry

Also liked Gangrel's from around the same time

wasn't that big of a draw

Are you serious with this? Yes, he was a backstage jerk. But he was a HUGE draw at the time. And one of the greatest entertainers ever- huge pop and heat back and forth. Pound for pound, probably the best wrestler of all time.
