Everything we said about Snow White has happened exactly what we said would happen. We shall SAY HER NAME every day to humble those racist entitled pieces of shite.

It would have made more than Aladdin and finding dory and those made a billion.

Maybe, but why? Aladdin was a massive hit (remade with a big star) that a significant percentage of current movie-goers remember seeing and loving. Finding Dory was a long awaited sequel to a massive hit that current movie goers remember seeing and loving.

Snow White is already a failure. You're trying to pile onto that failure with the addition of bad points. In fact, they're points that make others consider and question why Disney would put any resources into remaking a property that exists now solely as merchandising for the company. Girls know snow white because she's on Disney Princess pajamas and water bottles, not because they watch and care about the film. It's silly now to think that anybody ever thought this could make a billion. What you are pronouncing as obvious seems completely wrong and counterintuitive to everything we know about current tastes and fandom.

Obviously, it should be more successful than it is.

This is why I have questions about Lilo and Stitch. If Disney has ever had a "cult" animated hit, it's Stitch. Yes, kids aged 5-17 who saw it in theaters tend to remember it fondly, but the amount of people who have those feelings is so drastically fewer than the amount who has them for either Aladdin or Finding Nemo. Add to that, an almost 100% fail rate on the quality of these remakes. Add the reported budget that is more than the original ever made in US theaters. If there were a culture war element to latch onto, our resident Disney accountants (I'm sure you count yourself among them, based on your brief posting history) would be going out of their way to trash the budget and made up marketing cost numbers every change they got.

I like Stitch, and I'd like the remake to be good, but I'm worried the positivity here and elsewhere online is being generated by people who are the correct age to really want this particular hit of nostalgia.

Ok, the TechnoBlade tribute hit me harder than it should have. For those that don't know, Technoblade was one of the largest, well loved Minecraft creators. He died at a very young age from cancer. The pig with a crown was his avatar and the group sees a crowned pig in the village..."Is he some sort of king? No, he's a legend."

Just saw it. Very fun and entertaining. It’s an 8 or 9/10 for me. Jack Black is great. Momoa is awesome too. Just a damn good family movie.

Saw it today as well. Definitely a jack black type movie with his liners and song bits. Momoa was the star though. He pulled it off so well

Movie was just fun. Didn't need to know Minecraft to see it but if you did then you picked up on stuff

True, Warner Bros/Legendary’s A Minecraft Movie is delivering 52% of the $153M frame, still an $80.6M second weekend, but we can’t imagine that any exhibitor is complaining about the diversity or the amount of product in the marketplace. With an $80M second weekend, that’s the 16th best second weekend ever for a movie, and the second best second weekend for a videogame movie after Super Mario Bros’ ($92.3M). Some rivals believe the domestic endgame for Minecraft Movie is close to a half billion; Super Mario Bros got to $574.9M. Global running cume is $550.6M.

Saw it, kid enjoyed it. I got my hopes up because a lot of people said it wasn't as bad as you would think based on Jack Black. This is what I feared though, it was Jack Black at is absolute worst for me, way too over the top Jack Black. Wasn't a fan of Mamoa either. I got more of a smirk from Jennifer Coolidge and the villager than the two main stars. I hope to never see it again.

I liked the Minecraft bits and would have liked it to be totally CG and not involved real people. Kinda like some of the dungeons stories. I hated the scenes outside of the minecraft realms.

I said after the Mario movie that we are at the end of comic movie dynasty and heading towards the video game movie dynasty.

Seems like that would be a huge win for this movie. Honestly I thought it was going to bomb till I read some first day reviews from parents.

The memes will carry it pretty far. There wasn't a ton of kids/parents in our showing like I expected for a Sunday matinee. There was a lot more teens than I expected, and they just seemed to have been waiting for those meme scenes to make a bunch of racket and film themselves doing stupid crap.

Thankfully no popcorn throwing, the theater had signs up they would kick them out and not refund them and sent workers in the theater to watch right before the chicken jockey scene.

I really don't understand this trend. I asked my oldest about it and she was totally clueless to how it started or why.

True enough, but these things usually at least have some shallow justification. There's nothing about the chicken jockey scene that would implicate trashing the theater is a good idea.

I think it’s just like the dumb Harlem shake videos. It’s a jumping off point to do something to compare to other “viral” moments.

We saw the movie opening weekend before any of this nonsense and my 10yo was about to pee himself the entire movie. He knows every bit of Minecraft minutiae and was constantly hitting me saying "dad dad dad they're about to do X!"

When the chicken appeared in the ring he lost it and said DAD IT'S GOING TO BE A CHICKEN JOCKEY!!!

This was well before the zombie dropped or line was uttered so I'm guessing this is something Minecraft kids were fired up about because it's a rare occurrence in the game or something.

He went bananas when it happened but I thought it was just something he was into.

So not completely without basis.

Chicken Jockeys are much rarer in the java version. They are a lot more common in bedrock which is what most kids play as it is the only thing available on consoles, phones, and tablets.

It's more teens making fun of the way Jack Black says things over the top from the trailers and previews. They all knew it was coming from that and started making vids about it.

They did the same for "I am Steve", "The Nether", and "Flint and Steel."
