The entire undertone to the movie is that Dottie's amazing, but her heart isn't in the game. She wants family, kids, etc.
Kit, on the other hand, isn't as good but wants nothing more than to play her arse off.
The movie is more about the sibling rivalry between Dottie and Kit rather than their personal feelings toward baseball. The only reason Kit "wants it" more than Dottie is because she really just wants to be better than her big sis at something.

For the record, I do think she dropped it on purpose. Or at the VERY least, didn't try very hard to hold onto the ball.

why the hell wouldn't the ball have been secured in the glove to begin with, did rosie have that bad of a throw that a catcher can't get set up to make the tag when the runner is just rounding 3rd??

bitch got trucked
just lucky that it is her little sister so she can play it off as "letting her win"

Dottie Drops the ball on purpose, In the begining she tells her older grandson to let the younger one win.

I think the key is the line, “It got too hard” in her discussion with Jimmy Dugan. It was okay to tell the pitcher to pitch high to Kit because Dottie could distance herself from destroying her sister on the field again. But when it actually came down to a play at the plate between the two, it just didn’t matter as much to Dottie.
It got too hard.
In order to tag out Kit, as has been noted, it would involve destroying her little sister’s confidence yet again. And Dottie had already decided not to come back. To what end? Why do that to your sister? Another line, “Tell me what to do and I’ll do it.” Kit wanted to win, Dottie wanted her sister to be happy.

So now that we all agree that she dropped it on purpose lets go back to the very first reply of this thread, it was a bullshite move

She dropped the ball to appease her little sister but what about her teammates that busted their arse and never quit at any point during the season

She dropped it on purpose. The movie foreshadowed it with the big collision at home earlier in the season, "Dottie Henson held on to the ball!" (I never noticed the grandson part about Dottie telling him to let the younger one win). Dottie definitely enjoyed Kit being the heroine at the end. She didn't plan it all along, but somewhere between Kit rounding 3rd and colliding with Dottie, she decided to drop the ball.

I think Dottie dropped the ball so Kit could play the hero for once.
Right, that's why Dottie told the pitcher to throw her high fastballs because she could not hit them and could not lay off of them.

lol i love when Tom Hanks pegs the little fat kid in the face with a glove before the game
"WE'RE GONNA WIN!!!"
"WE'RE GONNA WIN!!!"

I've never thought she dropped it on purpose. I think Kit was just more determined at that moment. I agree that there really is no evidence that she intentionally dropped the ball except that it would be a "feel good" part of the story.
This is the best evidence to support this.
