Go back and watch his scenes, he kind of drifts in and out of modern, real world mannerisms and vernacular.

So like a guy whos very drunk?
These threads always derail over something that doesnt really matter.
I havent read the stories but I am intrigued by the show. The first episode did feel like a lot of meandering and not as much setting up more than "I want to compete in this tournament." I agree with whomever said a 2 episode release probably wouldve helped a lot.

No, not like that at all.

Well I think the episode was meant to introduce the pillars of the show. I can see someone saying it was boring and most of the time when you have this kind of 1st episode they’ll end it with something big or intriguing but they didn’t here. It was fine IMO, I just caught some jarring things that took me out of it while watching. I’d be immersed then all of the sudden there’d be this odd thing like the whores or Lyonel that would pull me out.

I have watched the episode a few times now, and overall i am looking forward to the next episodes.
I was not off put by the shitting scene, i have been camping and deer hunting and have had similar blowouts. They played the GOT theme music right before this, so i think the writers/director were sending a message.
No preachy woke narratives to ruin it. bonus.
How did we go from 24 1 hour TV episodes per season to 6 40 minute episodes per season in my lifetime? This is the biggest gripe I have with TV these days (there are plenty others).

What was jarring about the whores? It's Westeros, they're every where.
I personally thought Lyonel was one of the best parts of the entire episode. Really looking forward to his part.

Well they weren’t really whores, they were called that but they’ve been glammed up and are really fitness and health gurus. It’s a modernity thing, again compare them to any of the whores past in this universe and it’s easy to see.

Id expect the concubines of a noble house to be a better quality than some fleabottom whores.
It seemed like the girls knew all hia kinks and had been with the same lord for a while

I'm not trying to argue, just kind of confused. Are you talking about these two brauds? What made them fitness and health gurus?

I’ll have to go rewatch the scene so I can quote it but they give Dunk advice on armor and how to take care of your body for battle.

So I just pulled it up (it's at about the 23:40 minute mark of the episode).
quote:
First Dunk is talking about wanting to get into the joust and needing Lord Manfred's blessing. The whores tell him:
Dark-skinned whore dressing the girl on the table: "Find a safer trade, lad. You'll be happier for it".
Curly-haired light skinned whore: "One whore to another" and then the both laugh.
Dunk then calls them out for mocking him and noting that he was only asking for a "bit of help". They then look sympathetic and tell him:
"Sorry, lad. We don't mean to mock you. We see plenty of green boys every tourney. All with glory in their minds but never in their hands."
Dunk then says, "Well, perhaps I'll be different"
The red-head then says: "Be good to your body, Knight. Last one you like to have."
All that really reads to me is that because they're whores who frequent tourneys (I imagine they make good money during those) and have seen what happens to Hedge Knights seeking glory (they usually die or end up destitute). I don't take that as a "modern" thing at all. I get the impression that they sympathize with him because he's not unkind to them and they recognize he's just a "green lad" trying to get by. That doesn't make them fitness gurus.
We've seen this with other whores in the ASOIAF universe. They can be very observant (some become spies) and likely know what it takes to stay alive in a world like that.
I also don't think it's any coincidence when she tells him to take care of his body that they're dressing up another whore to look like a corpse for another customer.
ETA: I don't think any of the main Westeros religions discuss reincarnation, so makes sense she's assume when you're dead you're dead.

Are you going to do the ROSCOES again this year or not?
Posted on 1/21/26 at 12:29 pm to blueboy
Yep. The razzies thread just posted reminded me of it. Probably end up iced in here monday so I'll try and work on it then.

Enjoyed the first episode. Dunk and Egg are very well cast.
I do wonder how people that are not familiar with this story will take this show, as its so much more contained and less political than GOT and HoD.

Yea I don't really see a reason to hate on that scene other than just wanting to be bothered by something. I enjoyed it, especially since you could tell they were sympathetic after he said they didn't have to be unkind Unless that's not the scene he is talking about. Can't imagine anyone thinking a whore telling a knight to "be good to your body" and immediately thinking MODERN HEALTH AND FITNESS ADVICE I AM OUT ON THIS.

Cool. I watched more movies this year.

Yeah, I just watched it the other night and don’t get MKs take on that scene.
They’re not some experts, they’ve just been around the block and seen the likes of Dunk in the past, so when he calls them out initially, they just offer some kind words of things they’ve seen.

I liked the first episode. It feels more like A Knight's Tale set in the GOT universe than a political GOT spinoff, which is a nice change of pace.

Y'all expect me to hate one of my favorite movies set in one of my favorite IP worlds?
TBH, other than that shitting scene, this episode was magic start to finish. I love their characterization of Duncan. He comes across as thoughtful but ignorant, well-meaning, a little naïve but not starry-eyed. The actor they cast is doing a great job of making him easy to root for. He just comes across as so genuine and compassionate.
I actually really like the smaller, grounded story and deliberate pacing.
I was skeptical when they said they would take an entire season to tell a short story, but 6 EA 40 minute episodes seems about right. Just think, back in the day, we would have had a 22 episode season, and we could have gotten the entire Duck & Ed story in one season with time for a couple fun "monster of the week" episodes for fan service.
