I'm on season 4 right now, and I gotta say, even though almost all season rankings articles I've read say 4 is the best, it's not holding a candle to season 2 so far.

The shite that was uncovered simply because of a couple of Polacks who were arguing over a church window mosaic.

Season 4 is the 4th best season. It’s way better than 5, though

Bump- I just started this series. I tried a year or so ago to get into it, and damn the first few episodes are SLOW!!! Trying to power through, though, since it was so well reviewed.

The chess scene in S1, E3 (The Buys) is where it really starts to click IMO.

You gotta get to the point to where you love the characters. Then they bring in all these new characters in s2 in a whole new setting on the docks. It isn't the easiest show to get into but once you do it's really good.

Nice- I pushed through the first 2 tonight. I figured it couldn’t be too long, or it wouldn’t have been so popular.

I really, really think you need to give the first season a watch. It’s a piece of art.

If you are a fan of good smart television and cinema, you will like it

TV was not as instant gratification back then, or atleast it was allowed not to be in cases like this show.

It’s not popular because it’s the most hearting pounding exciting show (at times it is), it’s popular because it’s an insanely detailed and well written story outling the real issues within that city.

If you want to GOTs “shock” moment every week, this isn’t the show you are looking for. Buckle in and enjoy the ride. It’s well worth it.

I always try to give new shows I’m watching a full first season. Because there’s almost always early season bumps or it takes time to really flesh some things out.

IMO if you don’t like this show by the end of the 1st season, it may not be your thing (and that’s ok).

I cant think of a show i liked other than maybe frasier (which of course was a spin-off almost straight after cheers ended) that had a killer first season. And even season 1 of frasier wasn’t as good as S2 or S3. A lot of it is just establishing the characters and their respective roles and plots, then the story can start to launch.

Mad Men was that “watch to the end of the season” show for me. Started our really slow but was really good by the end of the season (The Carousel is fantastic).

GoT had an excellent 1st season and was compelling from the start. But we don’t want to talk about that.

Good summary.

I’m on my third watch and before now I kinda thought The Wire was overrated but now I’m loving it. I guess before I wasn’t watching as closely or something.

s1 of homeland was far and away better than the rest of the series.

s1 of the wire may not be the best season, but it's amazing.

For shows I like, Lost, Dexter, Bloodline, and Arrested development instantly come ot mind as having great first seasons.

true. Most shows even ones I love have some shaky first seasons.
