He made it known quite often that he wanted to go out. However, he stated that he will get to the coast to show his wife the ocean, through his eyes. That ended his journey, two-fold....to Oregon and his life.
Ditto...
He was overwhelmed with the grief of losing his family and to see the tragedy of all of those lives lost on the trail, which includes a deep fondness of Elsa, put him in a place from which there was no return.
Had Elsa survived, he might have accompanied the crew to Montana because she was like a Daughter/Granddaughter

I've seen a couple of interviews where they mentioned how hot TX was and on the other end of that how cold MT was -- would assume that means there's a season 2 with part of that being filmed during the winter.
Really enjoyed the show and hated to see the season end. We have it so easy compared to what those men and woman went through.

yeah, the part in the very beginning where they showed Tim walk in after getting shot.
and the flashback scene during Yellowstone where he allowed the indian guy to bury his father and gave them a cow.
didn't see either in season 1

they very clearly explained this.
How so? All I got out of it was that they said it was abandoned, but they were still there. Being former Buffalo soldiers (which formed in 1866), Sam Elliot and the black dude would've known the fort was abandoned in 1867. They would've assumed no help would be there. I doubt 16 years later that a few soldiers would be sent to an abandoned fort that in reality would be decrepit and useless at this point. It's lazy writing and a cheap way out of explaining something that can't be explained.

They took an artistic liberty to show the fact that they at least tried to get their dying daughter to a surgeon. In this world, the fort was still deserted, but the land was owned by someone else who still kept people there and rented out rooms. If you want to complain about inaccuracies, this is way down the list.

Yea I hate we won’t get to enjoy more Elliott but it was pretty clear what his goal was

Maybe he thinks it's a documentary rather than a TV show?
One good thing is this compels people to look up things they probably wouldn't do for general knowledge. But they'll look stuff up to have their "Gotcha" moment.

Maybe, but I didn't have to look this up. I happened to be at the museum a week before this aired. It's obviously not a documentary, but it is suppose to be based on history. At least put in an effort to educate people correctly. The country already has enough dumbasses.

is it? the history of the Dutton family?

The place where Elsa dies and the Duttons settle looked just like Tom Miner Basin when I went up there a couple of years ago. Picture I took:

It is named 1883. I'd think they could at least get facts right about that year.

What "fact" about a fictional family on a fictional western TV show do the need to get right?

Anyone notice how Jon held his dead son under the tree in the first episode of Yellowstone the same way James held Elsa under the tree?

is this really the ending of the series? IMDB shows a season 2.
Yeah I read an article says that is was a one season only limited series. The next Yellowstone show will jump for to the great depression era.

i'm ok with that. don't really care what they call it. I just want to see the journey between James setting up shop in that spot to John (Costner) owning pretty much the entire valley.

Paramount Plus' critically-acclaimed Yellowstone prequel series 1883 came to a close on Sunday night, and while the streaming service had teased 'more' of the show, creator Taylor Sheridan confirmed there will not be a second season.
The streaming service announced two weeks ago that it ordered 'more' of 1883, though they didn't specify a second season.

Sounds confusing but if Sheridan says 1883 is done, I’ll take that as gospel.
I guess “more” 1883 = 1932

How in the hell are those deputies going to figure out that the settlers killed their buddies?
Also, why were they north of Laramie, in Jasper? Seems like they went north already.
