Knew Belichick wasn’t going to trot Stidham out there as his starter for the season. There was zero percent chance of that happening. “But muh Tom Brady was a late draft pick too”

Stidham likely needs another year of development.

If this were true, he wouldn’t have waited until June to sign someone else

The dude was drafted in the 4th round and was very mediocre in college.
Kind of like Tom Brady? Oh wait... Brady was drafted in the 6th round. Totally different.

His best year of college he threw 18 touchdowns. He is not an NFL starter... that’s why he was drafted in the 4th round, nobody wanted him and Belichick didn’t want him until the 4th.
Brady's best year in college he threw 16 TDs.
In 2008 Brady went down for the year. Belichik then led the Pats to 11 wins with Matt Cassel as the starting QB. What round was he drafted? The 7th at pick #230.
You act like we can't look this shite up.

You sure about that?
From Diana Russini's Twitter account this morning:
I spoke over text w/ an AFC East Head Coach on Cam Newton and the Patriots. “I think they are going to keep 3 QBs. Use Cam Newton perhaps as the wild card. I actually don't see him starting Week 1 in the offense...I know one thing for a fact: the #Patriots love Jarrett Stidham"

I guess anything's possible, but I'm not betting on Stidham ever being anything special in the NFL.
He just had the opportunity of a lifetime, to take this starting job and run away with it. Brady was ready for it. Belichick seems to think Stidham isn't.

Because he signed Cam to a 1 year vet min deal? You think that means they have no faith in Stidham?
Posted on 7/1/20 at 2:42 pm to Dr RC
Yeah If Stidham beats out Cam in a camp competition I’m sure the Pats would be more than happy with that outcome

Brady is a one in a million. Just because Brady was drafted late doesn’t mean Stidham will be good. It’s way more likely he goes the route of Ryan Mallet than Tom Brady.

Faith in regards to being a starting QB in the NFL? Their faith is not at 0%, but it's not very high either. That's pretty evident, otherwise why would you bring someone in that expects to compete for the job?

Yeah I think everyone knows that.
But by the same token, just because Stidham was taken in the 4th or his college stats were limited, that doesn’t mean he can’t be successful at the NFL level
You’re the only one yelling in absolutes here

Again, Belichick led the Pats to 11 wins with Matt Cassel who was a 7th round draft pick. He could have led the Pats to a ton of SB wins with plenty of QBs other than Brady. shite, Tony Romo was undrafted and would absolutely have been a multi SB winner had he been a Patroit instead of a Cowboy.

If he’s not ready, you have a proven NFL starter ready to take the reigns, and if he is ready then they have a better gauge on how much they can trust him going into the season if he’s able to beat out Cam in camp
It’s a zero downside opportunity. If they weren’t atleast somewhat confident they could manage with Stidham, then Cam and other QBs wouldn’t have spent months on the bread lines

I don't think anyone here is lacking any facts with regards to this situation, I just think we interpret them differently.
Their goal has shifted from getting Stidham ready to start, to having a QB competition.
The difference is if you're banking on Stidham being the guy, why wouldn't you give him every rep possible? That's not going to happen now.
Bringing Cam in doesn't give Stidham the best chance to start, so why would you do it if you had a great deal of confidence in him in the first place?

Might be a different scenario with a regular offseason program. Going into camp with 3/4 guys being either complete unknowns or almost complete unknown isn’t the most comforting feeling im sure

Stidham isn’t really in a place where he won’t have to earn his keep either way. He was going to have to have a competition with Hoyer regardless or was going to have to show the coaches that he can run the offense at a mastery level.
I just don’t think signing cam in June means they are out on Stidham. Just that given the extremely cheap price, it’s an attractive option to throw into the mix to see what happens.
If they were that desperate for another guy they wouldn’t have sat on their hands for 3 months. And there’s been literally nothing to happen since the start of FA that could’ve changed their opinion of Stidham since there’s been no team activities

I don't think they're out on Stidham. I just think they have less confidence in him today than they had in him a couple of months ago. In the past couple of months they've gathered information about his grasp of the game, and based on that information they signed someone that can compete for the job. That's the way I see it anyway.

I don’t see how that’s even possible since there’s been zero team activities
They spent all year with him last year, they know how well he’s got a grasp of the offense.
