You've got it backwards. There are 30 MLB teams each with a roster of 25 players. That is 750 positions in the league. It is theoretically possible to induct ten players each year if everyone were to fill out their ballot the exact same way. That is .013 percent of the available roster spots for a given year. There are 32 NFL teams each with a roster of 53 players. That is 1696 roster spots available every year. By rule no more than five can be inducted when they first become eligible. That is .003 of the roster spots in the league.

This all may be true, but now's a good time for me to rant again that keeping Kevin Brown & Curt Schilling out is criminal.

Curt Schilling:
fWAR=15th fWAR(Live Ball Era)
bWAR=17th bWAR(Live Ball Era)
WAA, (which I think is a better representation of a player’s career), he is 7th.

Kevin Brown:
fWAR=20th(Live Ball Era)
bWAR=25th(Live Ball Era)
WAA=20th

Of course guys like Bonds, Clemens & ARod deserve to be in also, but Schilling & Brown get especially overlooked. And yes, I know about Brown & the Mitchell Report, but all of Brown's best years were pre-supposed steroid use.

Fred Taylor wasn't even a finalist smh. Him and Jimmy Smith are 2 guys i would love to see get in. Both of their resumes are absolutely worthy.

Happy for Zach though he deserves it Ronde Barber too.

Joe Klecko was a Pro-Bowler at DE, DT, and NT. Hell of a player.

Some need to be removed. A player should only be in the hall for on the field accomplishments. Not running your mouth at a banquet.

Chuck Howley (senior) and Coryell getting in were more deserved than Thomas, but Thomas absolutely deserved the recognition. I think they put too many in HoF for NFL, but this class is absolutely correct.

You have 3 Cowboys (Howley, Ware, Thomas)
The best Tackle of the era
Possibly the greatest passing mind other than Van Brocklyn Edwards or Gilman with Coryell
Klecko who was the glue of the Sack Exchange
The best Corner of the era
Barber is the only one that I struggle with, but understand what he meant to the Bucs of that era.

I'll see your Curt Schilling and Kevin Brown and raise you...

Ricky Williams--10,009 yards rushing, five thousand yard seasons, 342 receptions, 2,606 receiving yards, 74 total touchdowns all despite missing three seasons in his prime due to injury and fighting the NFL over pot. First eligible for voting in 2016.

Corey Dillon--11,241 yards rushing, 82 rushing touchdowns, six consectutive thousand yard seasons, seven thousand yard seasons total. Holds single season record for most rushing yards in Patriots history. Also had 244 receptions for 1913 yards and seven touchdowns. First eligible for voting in 2011.

Wes Welker--803 receptions for 9,924 yards and 50 touchdowns. Five seasons with 100+ receptions and thousand yards receiving. Also returned a kickoff for a touchdown and even kicked one field goal and two extra points in his career. First eligible for voting in 2020.

Keyshawn Johnson--814 receptions, 10,571 yards, 64 touchdowns. Caught 70, 71, and 70 balls in his last three years in the league. Retired at 33. If he had kept on playing he would have ended up in the 1,000 reception and 13,000 yards vicinities. First eligible for voting in 2011.

Art Powell--479 receptions, 8,046 yards, 81 touchdowns. Played from 1959-1968 in an era where teams typically ran the ball twice as often as they threw it and only played 14 games in a season. An era where 50 catches in a year would put you up among the league leaders. Five thousand yard receiving seasons. Between 1960 and 1966 averaged 65 receptions per year. First eligible for voting in 1973. Has been ignored by the so-called veterans committee too.

Jamal Lewis--10,607 rushing yards and 58 touchdowns. Seven thousand yard seasons including one two thousand yard season. Yeah, I get the drug smuggling cases he was involved in after his career does not help his case but the Pro Football Hall of Fame has yet to kick O.J. Simpson out either. First eligible for voting in 2014.

Derrick Mason--943 receptions, 12,061 yards, 66 touchdowns. Eight thousand yard receiving yards seasons, three seasons with 95+ receptions. Also returned two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns. Most receptions in Baltimore Ravens history. First eligible for voting in 2016.

Also had four punt returns, two kickoff returns for touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. First eligible for voting in 2021.

Accidentally hit submit there but probably for the best because it makes me realize there is no way I am going to fit this into one post.

Chad Johnson--766 receptions, 11,059 yards, and 67 touchdowns. Seven thousand yard seasons, six of them consectutively. Between 2003 and 2007 averaged 92 catches for 1,374 yards and 8.5 touchdowns. First eligible for voting in 2017.

Hines Ward--1,000 receptions (nice round number eh Biggus), 12,083 yards, 85 touchdowns. Six thousand yard receiving seasons. First eligible for voting 2016.

Andre Johnson--1,062 receptions, 14, 185 yards, 70 touchdowns. Five 100+ reception seasons, seven thousand yard receiving seasons. All time Texans leader for receptions by almost 400 receptions. First eligible for voting in 2021.

Reggie Wayne--1,070 receptions, 14,345 yards, 82 touchdowns. Four seasons with 100+ receptions, eight seasons with a thousand receiving yards, seven of them consectutively. Between 2007 and 2010 averaged 99 receptions, 1,318 yards, and eight touchdowns per year. First eligible for voting in 2020.

Fred Taylor--11,695 yards, 66 touchdowns, and seven thousand yard seasons. Also 290 receptions for 2, 384 yards and eight touchdowns. All time leading rusher in Jaguar history. First eligible for voting in 2015.

Jimmy Smith--862 receptions, 12,287 yards, and 67 touchdowns. Nine one thousand yard seasons in ten years, seven consectutively. Final season caught 70 passes for 1,023 yards at the age of 36 (turned 27 a month after the end of the season). First year eligible for voting in 2010.

Keenan McCardell--883 receptions, 11,373 yards, and 63 touchdowns. Five thousand yard seasons. First eligible for voting in 2012.

Eddie George--never stood out as a Hall of Famer to me when he was playing but then I looked at his career stats. 10,441 rushing yards, seven thousand yard seasons in a nine year career, and 68 touchdowns. Also 268 receptions for 2,227 yards and ten touchdowns. All time career rusher on a team in which Earl Campbell, Chris Johnson, and Derrick Henry have played the bulk, if not all of their careers. First eligible for voting in 2009.

Rod Smith--849 catches, 11,389 yards, and 68 touchdowns. Undrafted free agent from Missouri Southern who had a better career than any receiver drafted in 1994. Two 100+ reception seasons, eight thousand yard receiving seasons including six in a row. Also suffered from being on a team with piss poor quarterbacks after 1998. First eligible for voting in 2011.

Lionel Taylor--567 receptions, 7,195 yards, 45 touchdowns. Played from 1960 through 1968. Four thousand yard seasons. In an era where good receivers were catching around 50 balls a year between 1960 and 1965 he averaged 85 receptions per year. First eligible for voting in 1973.

Tiki Barber--10,449 yards, 55 touchdowns, six thousand yard seasons, including his last five in the league. Also 586 receptions for 5,183 yards, and 12 touchdowns. All time leading rusher in Giants history. First eligible for voting in 2011.

Ricky Watters--10,643 yards, 78 touchdowns, seven thousand yard seasons, six of them consectutively. One of two players in history to have thousand yard rushing seasons for three different teams. Also 467 receptions for 4,248 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Clinton Portis--9,923 yards, 75 touchdowns, six thousand yard seasons, three 1,500 yard seasons in his first four years in the league. Career receiving stats of 247-2,018-9. Popular narrative is that Denver fleeced Washington with the Champ Bailey for Portis trade and, while Denver definitely got the better end of it, Portis was not a bust with Washington either. First eligible for voting in 2015.

Gary Clark--699 catches, 10,856 yards, 65 touchdowns. Five thousand yard receiving seasons. First eligible for voting in 2000.

I'm getting tired and am going to head for bed. If I haven't made my case I will be glad to review the careers of Steven Jackson, Roger Craig, Otis Anderson, Warwick Dunn, and anyone else I can find on The Football Database
that I haven't got to for you. A couple of things to mention. First I only looked at running backs and wide receivers because if I did every position in the game I would not be making posts on the internet. I would be writing chapters of books. Secondly all stats are regular season only. I didn't look at playoff statistics, though Super Bowl rings were a factor for me including Wes Welker, Keenan McCardell and Gary Clark. Kind of like Super Bowl rings being a factor that included the likes of Terrell Davis, John Stallworth, and Troy Aikman being inducted in the Hall of Fame. Some players (Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson, Warren Moon) don't need rings to deserve to be in, others do.

Here is the video of all 9 getting the call....

2023 NFL HoF members

Zach Thomas and DeMarcus Ware's reactions made me misty, NGL.

And love that one Aliquippa (PA) boy in Tony Dorsett told another Aliquippa boy in Revis that he's in the Hall. That was awesome. That is now 3 HoF players from that town, Revis, Dorsett and Ditka and yet another Western PA native in the Hall.

And Ware's wife......
