What is the best defense to run in a youth league that runs 99% of the time?

5th and 6th
Then
7th and 8th

5-3 defense is best for Pop Warner age IMO. Middle schools tend to run whatever the high school does.

4-4 or 5-3 depending on your size. its just gap assignment bro. That age runs the ball 85% of the time

5-3.
Best combo of speed, size, and smarts at MLB. Then put two good tacklers at OLB.
Defensive ends are very important. They should be your most athletic big kids. Don't let them get down in a stance. Let them loom over whoever is supposed to be blocking them. It's intimidating and easier for them to fight off blocks quicker. Make them understand their job is turn everything ran to their side back inside to the linebackers, make sure there is not a reverse if it's a pitch to the opposite side. If it's not a reverse, destroy the qb if he's carrying out a bootleg fake.... And use your hands.
D tackle is just kids you think can do a good job at filling holes.
Put your meanest kid with a little quickness at nose guard. After he makes the center cry, there will be problems with center/qb exchange.
Corners have to know there's no shame in getting run over if you get the kid down.
Safety's job is don't get beat deep and be the last line of defense against long run, but don't be afraid to come up full speed and destroy somebody.
If you have decent kids that love the game, congrats you just won the league.

Google Amoeba defense. Don't put anyone down in a 3 point stance. Don't have a deep safety. If a kid gets outside, he's gone. The safety will tackle him maybe once a game at that age.

This. A well-placed forearm under the center's chin is your best weapon. When you disturb the snap/exchange the battle is half-won.

Google 6-2 monster defense. I used it in5th and 6th grade. Destroyed offenses

Yeah 6-2 would be my second choice. If they're beating you inside the tackles, you can go to a 6-2 and stack the middle if your defensive ends and corners are good enough to stop the outside runs... But a lot of times in pee wee the corners are just pasty little shits that you hope don't get killed. That's why I like a 5-3 and having stout defensive ends and solid tacklers playing olb.

I was blessed with two unreal linebackers and a smart safety. 6-2 was perfect for us
