The top players only play 20 to 25 minutes a night. 4 offensive lines and 3 defensive lines.
so a line basically only plays about a minute and half a shift?

On a long shift, ideally about 40 to 45 seconds per shift. It doesn't take long for the lactic acid to build up in the legs when you have to skate like these guys do.

Welcome to hockey fandom
Yes a minute and half is pretty reasonable, but oftentimes it’s even shorter. You’ll often see if a team gets extended offensive zone time so that the other team can’t change lines for over 2 minutes, that team will concede a goal.
The closest common exercise I can equate it to is going full sprint of a rowing machine for 1 to 2 minutes which can gas you extremely quickly.

Faksa gets caught flat-footed too often on the defensive end

Jesus I understand that basically a bunch of good deflections on these but you have to think the goalie confidence is shot right now.

So what are the Stars chances if Oettinger plays like Vanacek for New Jersey?
Posted on 5/2/23 at 9:24 pm to 88Wildcat
Our defense is weak outside of Miro and Harley. Gotta get a body on a body down there

Dallas is lucky they didn't have to scratch Pavelski tonight.

Oettinger had a ridiculous career playoff save percentage coming into this game - like 95%.
I think he’ll be alright, but I think he needs to be elite for the Stars to contend.

Stars head coach couldn't get to the locker room fast enough at the end of that period.

I"m new to Hockey, how do these guys play so many games?
82 games in regular season plus 7 game series in playoffs, its insane how many games they play.
Of course we didn't play that much. This post reminded of the first practice back after I got my cast off from breaking my wrist (radius and ulna). Of course the team played like shite and got blown out the game before. So it was gonna be hockeys versions of suicides to open the practice.
We always had some time to kill from after school until practice (like 90 min) because of course the rink was like 15 min away and then rink times. My dumbass ate 2 double cheeseburgers before. Didn't take long for me to leave the ice and puke like crazy in the locker room. That was awful. Worst puke ever. The team was in fully conditioned, I was basically at first practice of the year conditioning-wise.
Yeah, I did stay in the locker room a little longer than I needed to avoid a bit of the skating.
At least I didn't puke on the ice, gosh that would have been embarrassing.

Ehh, top defensemen can start pushing 28. And don't forget the long OTs in the playoffs. With 6 D-men, 2 are playing 25 minimum. I know that doesn't make sense mathematically, but ice time isn't distributed mathematically. I played D. Nothing worse and more tiring than a 3 on 5 when you can't get the puck out of the zone, that applies to playing Center too.
I love when people watch on TV and say that guy looks slow, well he is at the end of a 1:45 shift... no shite!
Edit: Last part wasn't at you. Was just talking about people who think there should be a breakaway after a blocked shot and the guy *looks* slow when he can hardly breathe, needs water and skating to the bench seems like a task... especially witht he long change in the 2nd lol
