There was a scrap in the Rangers/Devils series the other night. But fighting has been down for years.

This is my first year really watching hockey, are you not allowed/frowned upon to actually fight in the playoffs?

I haven’t seen anyone throw off gloves yet?

Is that a playoff thing?

Did you watch the games earlier on in the series? There were certainly a few fights. You can fight all you want, but you do take yourself out of the game for 5 minutes and risk hurting your hands.

Now that we are in game 6's and next game 7's you it's more unlikely to happen. Especially in tight games.

Fighting isn't as common anymore because they have to wear the visors now (except for some older guys who were grandfathered in). Those visors can cut the shite out of your hand. Plus you get an extra 2 minute penalty if you take off your own helmet before the fight. Gary Bettman is an awful commissioner.

When Ken Campbell was still with The Hockey News, he wanted to ban fighting altogether.

Can you think of a dumber way to market the NHL?

Take someone who knows basically nothing to even a very minor league hockey game and there's a good chance a fight will get them excited.

The big hits and fights are what draw in people who have never watched hockey, the casual fans and turn them into bigger fans. Then they start to appreciate the rest of the game once they start to learn the rules and such.

I hear you loud and clear. Rivalries are almost non existent anymore. It was a lot easier to hate someone when every team had at least one enforcer or villian. I'm sure the league didn't want to get sued out the arse like the NFL did. So they made the game softer.

Bandit should watch some highlights from the Wings/Avs rivalry back in the late 90s/early 00s. Those games were AWESOME.

Bet you he would love the goalie fights with Osgood/Vernon and Roy.

Skinner's stick broke before the giveaway goal. So when he tried to pass the puck he couldn't get any zip on it.

Heck, the start of the rivalry (Draper hit and the first all-out brawl) is what really got me into hockey as a young Wings fan (at like age 6) and eventually convincing my Dad to let me try the sport out myself. He started like it more and more too. Soon enough I was in learn to skate. Expensive arse sport

If I was announcing a game with Mikey Anderson and Dougie Hamilton both playing I would feel like I was doing a pee wee game.

Steven Stamkos and Austin Matthews fought each other in one of the Lightning-Maple Leafs playoff games.

Nothing is better in sports than a game 7 in the nhl playoffs. And we are blessed with two tonight.
