re: WTF has happened to sportscenter?

That was what promoted my original post in this thread, so that's what I thought you were arguing. They are cutting costs due to the subscriber loss to maintain margins. Revenue is still growing due to rising affiliate fees, but they did lower their expected growth projections due to the subscriber loss. Companies generally hire ahead of growth and, if growth is lower than expected, they lay people off. Its all about maintaining their high margins, which I fully support.

Cut the cord on cable 2 months ago and very happy about it. Between internet and streaming services the only reason for cable is live events. Like blockbuster and any other conglomerate empire frick your bottom line. People need to understand necessity vs luxury and the fabrication of the latter being anything more than a negative recurring monthly residual against your bank account.

I know ESPN is in bad shape and all, but what does all of this have to do with them showing hockey highlights and having Barry Melrose, and Lil Wayne co host? I thought this was the base of the OP post. Not the business end.

I was talking about the consumer. Frick Disney and ESPN. People need to protect their funds from these people and make them provide a service before just handing over hard earned cash to them so they can continue running an auto pilot terrible program.

Hope you've been shorting since Star Wars premiered.

True I see your point. I'm watching this new AM Sportscenter and it is so bad. But Jayme Sire got me hooked watching, damn she's a cutie

screw ESPN, never alienate your loyal customers with political bullshite. Just a couple of bad analysts paved the way for me not to watch. And you can see the direction it was/is going.
But in the old days, it was a really fun show. Fast and furious with sports and facts to back it up.

Actually, ESPN continues to mint money. Look at a financial statement. Disney just reported last week. ESPN is ridiculously profitable.
They have no competition

We all hoped it would be FS1 but they are a complete joke with talent openly fighting each other on Twitter

I bought in only after it dropped to the mid-$90's on fears on cord cutting. ESPN is going to be fine in any scenario. Disney has grown revenue and earnings every year for a decade plus and will continue doing so.

They've started relying heavily on the niche shite. "SC Stars" and the saturation of feel-good pieces have made it decline.
I watch it every now and then but they have gone away from what I loved about it. The damn highlights. Have all the commentary you want BUT give me some damn highlights. They've gone away from what a shortstop did on the field to which model he's banging now. It sucks.
All of this.
And the thing that sucks the worst is the on-air talent. They're trying to fill it up with attractive women who don't seem to know jack shite about sports, and douchey looking frat boys who know just as little.
I think they've also moved a lot of the show to LA, and that influence is definitely showing. Although I don't mind certain shite like the Melrose/Levy corner shite, because at least those guys are decent at what they do (except for Barry...he's not decent, he's awesome).
I used to love having SportsCenter on in the morning when I got up/ready for work, but now with this stupid new "SportsCenter AM" bullshite, it's a pain in the arse to watch. I may be going back to watching Married With Children.

In all honesty, the best thing ESPN has going for it are Russillo and Kanell and Adnan and SVP. They need to let those guys run amok all over the network and ratings and content would improve immensely. Right now, the TV portion of ESPN is atrocious.

I work out early in the morning before work and Sportscenter AM blows. I need to find something to watch sports related because I can only take so much CNBC

Sportscenter has turned into a scaled down version of CNN news. Their politics has ruined the show. No thanks.
Posted on 2/17/16 at 11:59 am to ctiger69
Are they're any sports shows you guys watch when getting ready in the morning? That AM Sportscenter is straight garbage
Posted on 2/17/16 at 12:14 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Yeah, I watch it while on a treadmill every morning and it is just weird. No more highlights, two dudes and two chicks sitting around a table discussing who knows what. Have a "Standing O" segment where they each pick one player from the night before. Just a weird setup.
