Or did you almost hurl because Rick Jones made your idol, Skip Bertman, quit the game back in 2001?
He did send Skip out on a loss though.

That player that played for them 10 years graduated. Think he coaches somewhere now.

The comparison to LaRussa was made by a poster here, not by tulane fans in general. And Rick Jones never upset me. I just did not like him primarily because of the way he used his program to stiff LSU fans anytime LSU played in N.O. He used LSU fan money to help fund his program. Beyond that, he was a good HC, no doubt. But greatness should relate to at least winning one NC. I am just an old school LSU fan who grew up not liking tulane, for its fans for the most part. Lots of yankees (sarcasm, not butt hurt), many of whom were more anti LSU than pro tulane.

Not hiring Cannizaro will haunt this program for a while, I would bet.
That is yet to be seen. However, when they passed on him, they basically burned the bridges with him. He was obviously qualified for the job, (ended up getting a better job shortly thereafter) and made it very known that he wanted the job. It was really a slap in the face.
That was their chance to get him. If Cannizaro ends up being a great HC, you are absolutely right that thy will never get over it.

Andy was by all accounts a good hitting coach and a good recruiter. but to an extent, LSU recruits for itself.
being at a high cost school is a different animal and although Vandy has some huge advantages that Tulane does not have, the new coach at least has some experience with that.
right or wrong, in the end Rick Jones stacked his bench with former players and many people felt like it was the wrong direction and that you needed experienced assistants. I am betting that the poor experience with some of the old players might have contributed to the decision. although, lots of the Tulane people wanted Riser, who has done a nice job

Tulane's overall athletic program is such a buzzkill. Baseball used to be a bright spot. Oh well....
I think we're still killing shite in women's volleyball and bowling.

no. our women's coach went to FSU a few years back and we are awful at that now too. we are good at men's tennis

Once they build the new $90 million dollar basketball arena on campus Tulane will back on top.

How would anyone know if Tulane passed on AC? Maybe AC passed on them to get one of the top jobs in college baseball period.
Posted on 3/13/17 at 8:59 pm to chalmetteowl
Cannizaro's mom said so

I worked with AC's cousin briefly on the river. He said that AC and his family were pretty hurt by it, and that he really wanted to coach at his alma mater. I know, hearsay, take it FWIW but sources close the Cannizaros have been outspoken about it

i certainly don't know, but it sure sounded like AC wanted the job and didn't get it. i guess it is possible that he passed on them, but his little brother went on a bit of a twitter rant that tulane made a mistake, if I remember correctly

We hired a bad coach who lost the team in the fall.
See USM when they hired Ellis Johnson.
The irony was that this was the rare Tulane can't miss coaching search and somehow we whiffed.

I'm not giving up on Jewett yet. You don't have to be a likeable guy to be a good coach. His incoming recruiting class looks pretty good so far
Posted on 3/13/17 at 9:08 pm to TulaneFan
this year is over. but you have to give him 2-3 years. fire him now and who would take the job? nobody will take it with the thought of getting fired after a year.
he's supposed to be a good recruiter as others have said, and the class is supposed to be good. we will see

hard to argue with that, barring a conference tourney championship this year is a disaster. It's tough to be a wave fan right now.
I do believe that Tulane is a better baseball job that people think. You're in one of the deepest recruiting states, have good good tradition/ faciliites, and the administration does care about the program. Tulane won't stay down forever

His brother literally tweeted at the Tulane AD "you picked the wrong guy" the day Jewett was hired. That's a pretty good sign
