I don't think you are a moron, but I would definitely do it if I was the Cardinals. And I love Matt Carpenter. But Carpenter is almost 31 and Trout is under team control longer.

We just wouldn't have anything left and considering the amount of money our ownership is generally willing to spend, we wouldn't have much money left to fill the many holes that would be left

I dont think you understood the idea. Its the two best postion players. Not a solid player, what will be a AAA lifer and 2 prospects.
It would be somewhere along the lines of Beltre+ stinky or mazara, + 2 prospects

Angels dont want old players like beltre.
they arent dealing trout for 35+ year old players.
Rangers are only team who could do it, and still be one of top teams in mlb.
rest do it, they have trout a couple players and scrubinis. Angels part deaux
