Would you be in favor of getting rid of the “uncatchable ball” rule on PI plays?

A penalty is a penalty, regardless of how close you are to catching it. a DB can’t just clothesline a WR when the QB throws the ball away because it’s “uncatchable”

For those who like the rule (where the refs pick-up the PI flag on uncatchable balls), would y’all be in favor of amending other rules similarly?

Ie: picking-up the flag on holding calls where the defensive player wasn’t in a position to make the tackle?

get rid of spot foul in the NFL. If the ball in uncatchable how can you interfere with the pass? If the DB clotheslines a guy on an uncatchable ball, could you call unnecessary roughness?

I’m generally in favor of fewer flags rather than more so yea I would be okay with picking up flags where the hold happens away from the play.

just responding to the OP. If a DB does something outrageous call the correct flag. If it's uncatchable you can't call DPI, in that case call unnecessary roughness.

Adding penalty yards to the end of the play ONLY for the offense is complete bullshite.

No, if a ball is ruled uncatchable then the pass was not there.

What I would be in favor of is losing automatic first downs. 3rd and 35, defensive holding 7 yards deep on a short pass, should not be an automatic first down.

Also more offensive penalties should be loss of down. For example, holding. It most likely stopped a sack or a tackle for loss. Offense should not inherit a replay of down for a penalty that occurred during the play. Penalties favor offense too much. Even the penalties out.

That is fine

How about
No PI for underthrown passes
No penalty is an auto 1st.

And figure what is holding.

1 more, make any play reviewable. The roughing the passer has jumped the shark. It can be quick the ref doesn't need to go to a monitor and see it, let new York handle it and beep in to a sideline ref who can relay the info mich quicker.

I just want to see targeting called on a damn running back, once. The announcers will gush over a rb that lowers his head and delivers a hit, but then act ashamed for a db that hits a sliding qb incidentally.

I wish post snap offensive penalties were for less yards but included a loss of down. Not really fair that an offensive holding which avoided a sack allows the offense a do over

Eh, I disagree. A penalty on third down basically ends your possession without a long conversion. A defense can commit a 15 yard penalty on a drive and it easily not result in points for the offense.

Does not exist in Federation Rules for High School.

I can’t remember the last time the ref ruled the ball uncatchable.

Wide receivers use a stiff arm to establish separation. Never called. Defensive backs fight the stiff arm, get called for PI.

It’s not consistently called, but is used to meet point spreads, most favored teams, and what the public opinion supports.

Kabuki theater.

No

But they need to get rid of PI on underthrown balls and eliminate face guarding. Why does a DB have to turn around if he’s not interfering with the WR? If he breaks up the pass, who cares

As long as intentional grounding can be ignored, QB’s can do BS that makes the game uglier.

Face guarding is not a foul at any level of football.

No.

Get rid of spot foul.

15 yards (or spot if inside 15 yards) and 1st down.

The point of the rule is to reward the offense for a play that potentially could have been made.

So rewarding the offense for an uncatchable pass doesn't make sense.

Yardage instead of a spot foul doesn't make sense either but for some unknown reason college goes with that.

I wish high schools would add uncatchable to their rule book

I’d also get rid of automatic first downs.
