Tie between the Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers. Two originally great local references for teams that then moved to LA where the reference makes no sense, as there is no water or public transportation in LA.
Move the team, change the name. Otherwise, it's just stupid.

I think the issue with those names are they happened so long ago
Now days you’d see a name change.
Back then I feel like you didn’t, and at this point way too much history associated with the names to change them now

Yeah, because of the history of the teams winning we have disassociated just how terrible of team names they are. They make ZERO sense in context.

will get downvoted by the fans on here but Colt .45s to Astros is right there on "Awesome to Mickey Mouse" rebrands.
Its slightly better just because its at least connected to the city and not just an alliteration.
The bullet nickname came from the Beta Bullets athletic shoes that were made in Baltimore during the 1940s. So it was more than an alliteration.

all those MLS names that have United, Sporting, Club, City and so on with the names copied from Europe.
Yeah it's super fricking cringe. FC Dallas makes me eyeroll like crazy.

Agree. I always liked the Jacksonville Suns. Why mess with it?

I remember when the New Orleans name change was going around
One of the names that was out there was Brass
New Orleans Brass is a pretty bad arse name
New Orleans Brass was the name of the minor league hockey team (ECHL) that played in the late 90s-early 00s... called the New Orleans Municipal Auditorium and then the New Orleans Arena (now Smoothie King Center) home
made the playoffs each year of their existence
but when the Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans... the Brass were basically forced out of the Arena and the Municipal Auditorium was no longer a viable option... so the team basically folded b/c it had no home (and attendance wasn't all that great)
don't know who owns all the Brass trademarks and whatnot

And I know what you’re thinking......and the answer is yes.
