Worst injury I've ever seen. That was terrible.

Not this type of fracture.

i doubt he can play again...breaks like that happen b/c of existing stress fractures, and he's always going to have the risk that it breaks again. he should have a normal life without any infections, though

Soccer players recover from that injury all the time: Eduardo, Aaron Ramsey, Djibril Cisse, etc.

None of us know just how bad it is

It's obviously an open fracture

soccer players don't jump 3-4 feet in the air 40 times in a game though

and those guys come back noticeably less explosive, and you just can't do that in basketball

You also can't compare landing on a grass field all the time vs hardwood.

You and me both. I also was trying to clinch my fist as if I had a stress ball in there and feel extremely weak. That may be the hangover though.

It is obviously an open tibia fracture. Just looked it up and here is some info:

30-50 weeks for the bone to heal.

12 months after the injury, 44 percent had not regained full function of the injured leg.

Kid would have been much better off blowing his ACL.

Clicked on this thinking it was a picture of the Louisville players. Nope, it was a picture of his leg hanging and bone sticking out.

My point is that bones grow back together as long as they are set properly and there is no infection. I've had five different broken bone injuries in my life and no lingering effects (none like this though). The conditions of the sport played make no difference.

I honestly am not sure how this injury even happened. Was it just one of those freak accidents?

And depends on his surgeon. Because he's going to the OR as soon as possible bc it is open.

They look mid shaft so I'm sure they will reduce it and probably nail it. They could throw a plate on also.

I did a case a while back, tib/fib and femure fx. It was lomg

I don't know, they've made hardwoods much more forgiving, and you're cleats aren't digging in.

cleats digging in can still give more than hardwood with basketball shoes on

Many blamed Prothro's ankle brace being so high and tight up his leg as the reason for his break. Could be the same case here, i cant recall if Ware was wearing one.

Yes it was a freak accident. He jumped normal, landed normal and it just blew out. Probly had some existing stress damage for that to happen

i've seen injuries like that in soccer (alan smith, djibril cisse, eduardo) and football when guys get rolled up on but damn, you just don't see anything like that much in basketball. only thing i can think of is the kid from a&m who broke his ankle against uw a few yrs ago
