I can't believe Mike Tomlin has the gall to complain about black coaches not getting opportunities and then decides to keep Matt Canada instead of going after Eric Bieniemy last off-season.

Tomlin has no say. Rooney II will not let Canada be fired since he's under contract. He doesn't want to pay for two coaches. Canada's contract is up after this year. He will not be back next year. This has happened to every Pittsburgh coordinator under Rooney II.

2. Carmichael is worse.

I’m not so sure about that. And I think Pete is atrocious and can’t wait for him to be gone. But I heard a NFL offensive 3 and Outs stat this week (it was either on local BR radio or a Saints podcast, but they were reading a list off a site, so I assume it’s accurate, but didn’t verify it myself).

The Steelers have gone 3 and Out on 48% of their drives. Worst in the NFL. That is aggressively bad. It’s the Will Ferrell Anchorman “I’m not even mad” meme bad. You would almost have to go out of your way to try NOT to get at least 1 1st down every other drive. The Saints 3 and Out percentage was somewhere in the 20s. I’m not sure where that ranks relative to the rest of the NFL (I wanna say it was top 10ish because it was used as the 1 glimmer of hope for their offense, but not sure).

Regardless, the Steelers are twice as bad. I know that’s just 1 stat, but I was blown away by it. Like I said, that is aggressively atrocious. It’s so bad that I think it mitigates any personnel advantages the Saints may have. They both suck, but give me Carmichael over Canada.

once u get the titles(hc,asst hc,dc,oc,etc) in nfl and cfb, u will always have a job. look at all the ceo's who fail miserably, then get another ceo job at a bigger company, fail again, find another ceo job.

titles dawg, u get them, you have it made.

That was because of double-digit IQ Orgeron, who didn't understand why we were using so much motion

This is just bullshite. I am not defending Orgeron as some sort of football genius—or even expert—but you don’t coach for 30 years without at least stumbling into understanding the reason for using motion. I think he didn’t understand—and neither do I—why the motion was almost sideline to sideline and took 25 seconds every play. You use motion right before the snap to either get defenders moving in the wrong direction or to give away what coverage they’re running. But ours was soooooo long and so telegraphed, that any competent DC who watched film could easily coach their D to avoid that. It basically wound up being just a hand-off option to a guy that had just run 30 yards horizontally.

Russell Gage is fast as frick, had a very nice NFL career before his injuries started piling up, and Canada couldn’t figure out a way to get him involved vertically. He was so gassed by the time he got the ball and around the end that if he was able to actually turn it upfield, it was usually for a 5-6 yard gain at most (I’m sure he broke a few, but not worth the downside).

And the downside was that it was fricking up our OL and causing a ton of false starts because they were being asked to stay down in their stances for way too fricking long. And that lead to some early, terrible losses. I’d submit that Orgeron reigning that in was one of the best coaching jobs he did at LSU and basically saved the 2017 season. After embarrassing September losses to Mississippi State and Troy, we wound up finishing the regular season 9-3 (6-2).

And who knows, if we go 7-5 or 6-6 instead of 9-3, maybe we’re not as attractive a place for Burrow to come the next year.

didn't want to start Myles Brennan.

I mean, people didn’t want Miles Brennan starting in ‘20, ‘21, or ‘22.
And you and Canada wanted him starting in ‘17 as a true freshman? Even if the motion had done what it was supposed to do (it didn’t), you think a true freshman Miles Brennan would have been able to recognize what the defense was telling him, process it, and get the ball out to the right guy? Over 5th year Sr. Danny Etling? Who, by the way, wound up having a nice little 2-year career at LSU that was very underrated and still overlooked.

Canada got stubborn and then pissed off Aranda (by not practicing straight up the way Aranda needed/wanted), which was the final straw.

I think this says a lot about Canada and why he sucks. Why he didn’t realize how negatively his super long and drawn out motion was affecting the OL. He’s all about Matt Canada. He was auditioning for his next gig, trying to appear innovative and to just see how high his total offense could be ranked, not trying to help the team win games. You know, the actual point of even playing them.

But Carmichael still does suck cock. Maybe just not quite as much as Canada.

PIT WR talent isn't what it once was, and Pickett is garbage. Their OL is meh, and their RBs are below-average.

The OLine is horrendous as well. As a whole, it might be worse than Pickett has been.
