Who in the minors can the Rangers call up to pitch?

He's only signed through next year. When the team does poorly -- as they will next year -- the players' manager approach fails. (See Phillips, Wade.)

PS--Love the picture. Is that Scarface with a Wash photoshop?

Scheppers and Perez will likely get spring training reps.

The Rangers have one of the best farm clubs in the biz right now.

Which means maybe 2-3 away from (possible) real success. By then Josh, MY, Nellie, and Napoli are all gone.

I'm 46 and I am convinced that I will not live long enough to see the Rangers get back to the WS. And I'm not terminally ill (actually, we all are, I just haven't been told that I'm going much sooner). This was our chance, and now it's gone.

That guy that bet on them 8.5 games out to win the NL and WS is fricking rolling in the money now. Can't believe he hit both of those. Unreal.

I disagree. I am a Cards fan but living here I would have rooted for the Rangers if they played anyone else. They are in a division where the Angels are the only other team with money (and if Houston moves into it they are a basket case too). That means they'll continue to get into the playoffs often and all they have to do is be hot at the right time of the year some year. The 06 Cards proved that.

The 85 Cardinals were probably best team since the 60's.

probably so, tho I'm not old enough to remember the 82 cardinals well - the 85 team was tremendous and beat out a great mets club just to win their division

quote:

The 87 Cards didn't have a dominator on the hill really, a bunch of good pitchers

now here I gotta take issue with that opinion - john tudor had one of the great seasons for a pitcher in the 1980s. He finished 21-8 with a 1.92 ERA... in spite of starting the year 1-7 (closing 20-1 was just unbelievable)

quote:

The best thing to happen was David Green got hurt brought up McGhee

I'm confused unless you mean to refer to a different season because willie mcgee's breakout/rookie year for the cardinals was 1982 not 1985

quote:

As far as offense once they got on base it was a 4x100 team, they wouldn't stop unless Whitey or Lanier gave them the sign to stop.

coleman and mcgee alone stole more bases than most teams - over 150 stolen bases between teh two of them in 1985 (56 by mcgee and 110 by coleman in his rookie year)

I'm guessing your brought up mcgee statement is intended to reference vince coleman - 85 was his rookie year and he was just not going to go back to AAA

I saw the thread where he bet on them to win the pennant. Did he bet on them to win the World Series too? If so, would love to know the payout. That is unreal.

This win is more satisfying than the 82 series but sting from 85 is never going to leave. 87 was a team like this one just couldn't win in the Dome though. Pendleton hitting cleanup for a hurt Clark, I wonder if it would have mattered though.

No! It was that damm white roof. our guys couldn't find the ball half the time.
