I've been depressed all day. One strike away -- twice -- from seeing the one team I've followed since childhood (not much on football, basketball and hockey didn't arrive in DFW until I was older) finally win the big one.

Plus having to listen to my supervisor -- the biggest anti-Wash guy I know -- complain about all the managerial mistakes he (supposedly) made with regards to pitching. (He actually thinks that Nolan should take pitching change decisions out of Ron's hands and have Maddux do them.) And a good chunk of my co-workers transferred here from our St. Louis office (you get the point).

I may not even watch, I'm so afraid of jinxing them (if I don't I'll be out on the instawebz somewhere, not here bugging you guys).

I like Wash, but tactical acumen is not among his skillset. Tactics don't really matter that much over the course of 162 games, but matter a ton in the postseason. So it exposes Wash's biggest weakness. That said, his greatest skill is getting his guys ready to play -- the Rangers have consistently shrugged off bad news under Wash like it is nothing. If any manager can get a team to focus after last night's disaster, it's Wash. If you don't think that matters, ask Whitey Herzog, who once said the only game he's ever managed with a team not ready to play was Game 7 in the 1985 Series.

While I'm making comps, the Rangers remind me of the 95 Indians. Right down to a slick fielding shortstop.
