Which one specifically do you love who does this? If you had to pick a favorite. Someone other than rapinoe.

This annoys me far more than her antics. Nobody will remember anyone other than Rapinoe and Morgan (who had her fame before the tourney) because Rapinoe just so overshadowed everything.

But but but Kamala Harris told America on the nationally televised Democratic Debate that black women only get paid $0.61 for every $1.00 white men get paid. How come?!!

The opposition will just scream about US soccer revenue numbers and not realize pay for World Cup is designated by FIFA.. They also won’t take into account historical numbers which are used for current pay but whatever

OK. I found the source and the article doesn’t appear to be correct.

FIFA Financial Report 2017

The entire revenue from 2015-2018 (not just 2018 World Cup and not just from events) was $5.6 billion with $3.9 billion projected in 2018. Furthermore, while it doesn’t provide specifics, the revenue from competitions and events (which the World Cup falls under) for the entire for 4 year period was only $2.7 billion.

In addition, they project the 2022 Men’s World Cup to have a total revenue of $1.656 billion, not anywhere close to the $6 billion the article says the 2018 World Cup brought in, despite 4 more years (inflation) and likely a larger payout (inflation again).

So even using the 2018 payout for 2022 and assuming no payout increase, that actually represents a larger percentage of revenue (24.2%) than the Women’s 2019 World Cup (22.9%), although it’s pretty comparable.

In other words, the article appears to be flat out wrong, although their payout does appear appropriate.

They want to get paid exactly what men get paid regardless of revenue.

This is the entitlement ingrained from Title IX.

If they worked at Motel 6 they'd want to get paid as much as someone working at the Ritz Carlton.

Fair is fair, right? It shouldn't matter that Motel 6 doesn't have the revenue to pay employees like a Ritz Carlton.

Washington Post just did a fact check on this. Basically since 2017 the women earn almost as much as the men for their seasons. Also, the women have a guaranteed base salary and can earn bonuses. The men only get paid if they play and they have to earn bonuses to reach their max value.

During world cup years, the men bring in far more revenue than the women. Since the men didn't make it this cycle the women brought in more.

Merchandise sales are hard to attribute because Nike just pools it all together and then it's split up between the men and women by the federation.

Men can earn far more prize money but they actually take a smaller piece of the pie(9.5% vs 13.3%) than the women.

Let's take a step back from the uswnt down to their selection pool... d1 soccer. 334 women's teams... 205 men's teams. Women get 14 scholarships a squad, men only get 9.9. So here we are, women getting 4,676 soccer scholarships to men only getting 1,968. Ever so slightly north of 7 in 10 d1 soccer scholarships go to women. This system is so beyond unequal, but doesn't bother them in the slightest.
