Right, I mean he could've been transitioning into a dual role, but that doesn't appear to be the case. When it was initially reported that Stevens was going to take a more prominent role in the front office, I just assumed it was going to be a dual role.

Ainge had a good run. He got tripped up by Millennial Kyrie and Father Time catching Kemba’s knees here recently, but he left them with a solid foundation in Brown and Tatum.

Sounds like Stevens was just tired of coaching. I think he’ll probably do well in basketball ops. Interesting spot for a coaching search though.

Well that’s an interesting leap. Ownership must love Brad, pushed Ainge out the way.

Or Brad came in with a plan and made a case against Ainge and what he would do differently. Pretty interesting.

Definitely thought Zarren would get that job. Now they probably lose Ainge and Zarren. Probably for the best, they needed to move on a bit.

Crazy where the Celtics and Nets are comparatively given that awful trade.
The Nets got lucky that Kyrie and Durant decided to form a super team there. They also have the luxury of being a rich team with an amazing arena in a desirable locale.

Bill Simmons is a fraud. Too busy trying to impress millennials at the Ringer than actually watching the NBA these days.

Ainge seem to get a full of himself and became the guy no one even wanted to look at offers from because he didn't want to deal unless he was blatantly fricking you.

Pretty sure Simmons and Russillo have hinted at something like this before. I think Simmons even predicted Ainge would be out or “promoted” to a higher position with less power in a pod leading up to the playoffs

Simmons has been hinting at this for months and they went into depth on it.

You’re right about that, I was referring more to Stevens stepping down from coaching like this

That’s a bit of an impossibly high bar to set for a team. They can’t really do that unless they just kick out on another pick someday or a disgruntled superstar decides he wants to be in Boston

I think the sky is falling syndrome is kind of silly from them. That roster certainly has issues, but they’ve got a budding star in Taytum who is still getting better and better and took it up another level against the nets, despite being clearly unmatched and they have Brown which is a lower tier but also a rising young player and both those guys are happy in Boston. There’s so many teams who would kill to have two happy and productive young wings to build on

We could have had Myles Turner (allegedly) instead of a trade exception we still haven’t used would be a pretty strong case.

Where they are at now is disappointing considering the assets they had several years ago. There’s no way around it. Ainge deserves credit accumulating them but the execution is a little disappointing. I agree they aren’t in a bad spot or anything but Ainge has been there a long time, a new voice and perspective might not be the worst thing. It will be interesting if Stevens even provides that
