I guess it is how you look at it.
I don't think you can say the WNBA can go bankrupt when it has never existed on its own. It has always been subsidized by the NBA.

The national basketball players association doesnt lose a single cent to the WNBA. What in the hell are you talking about?
LOL
Do you not understand the WNBA is losing millions?
And the REVENUE to support those lost millions are coming from the NBA?
Pretty simple.
How stupid are you mofos that you dont even understand the difference between revenue and profit? Yet youll criticize billionaire owners with teams full of financial advisors like they are the idiots and are losing money

The NBA generated $12.25 billion in revenue last year. It expected to reached $15B this year.

Its used in discussions because profit margins are different for every team and not released publicly.

Don't think you're comprehending this discussion.
Who ultimately generates the revenue from the NBA that subsidizes the WNBA?

He was using it to say the National Basketball Players Association was losing money because the WNBA made the NBA lose revenue. It doesnt make any sense at all. The NBPA gets a ~50% split of revenue, not profit.

Agreed on that.
The owners do lose profit, albeit relatively minimal.

I think the arguments are going in circles at this point.
As for billionaire owners: they will play the long game. Hypothetically, losing money short term for some worthy cause may be part of the bigger picture. Whether it’s a social cause, disaster relief, etc. Like you said, these billionaires are smart.
People tend to believe what they see. People here don’t really see popularity within the league that would equate to these contracts being worth north of a million. I don’t hear anybody talking about the league. I don’t recall ever seeing a WNBA jersey in the wild. I can think of maybe 3 teams that are known for having big crowds.
Because there is a larger social cause at work here, that could explain some things.
I’m not going to change your mind here. I don’t “hate” the league. I don’t give a shite if some star makes over a million. Something just doesn’t add up to me. You couple that with the athletes being known to shite on potential fans, and I find it hard to believe it’s actual value is worth what the TV deal is paying.

It doesnt matter what the NBA/Owners do with their half of the revenue generated by the NBA. The players get their 50% regardless. Its the reason why they are guaranteed half of revenue instead of half of profits. The owners can always find more expenses to cook the books to lower profits.

That's such bullshite. They'd get blowback from the Jemelle Hills of the world for about 15 minutes. Then, no one would care.
There are a lot of folks trying to Gretchen Weiners the WNBA. You don’t think it would be a bigger deal if some guys who make unbelievable amounts of money ended the WNBA?

You want your shiny toy? Then you’ll part with some of these profits and keep the WNBA game afloat.
If not, we’ll find someone who will.

When 95% of it is negative…? I don’t think this is a situation where arguing on TD or shitting on the league is generating revenue via clicks.

He’s arguing the league is popular, then saying if it went under, it wouldn’t be a major issue. That’s contradictory.

I would not be surprised if the WNBA is peaking right now only to revert back to obscurity.
Seems like it’s just an arena for people to air grievances and fight the social battle that has been so popular recently.
Lose that and the league has nothing left, imo,

You are missing the cause of there being so many more (even if they are mostly negative) posts now. Its because it is more relevant/popular/mainstream. Just talking about it here at all much less these multiple page threads shows how much more popular it is than in the past.

Of course not. No one gives a shite about the WNBA. It'd be a momentary kerfuffle until the do-gooders get distracted by the next SJW cause du jour.

I don’t think anybody will argue that. There’s also been a major push by ESPN and athletes across social media to try to get the WNBA as many likes as possible. Again, is it enough? Will the league ever truly be able to stand on its own?
