WNBA playoff seeding question

Can anyone explain the WNBA seeding to me? There are 8 total teams that make the playoffs and they also have 2 different conferences, just like basically every other major sport. However, EVERY other sport seeds an equal amount from both conferences, has those teams play and the winner of both conferences meet in the championship. The only sport that doesn’t do this is the WNBA. They take the overall top 8, seed them 1-8 and then play a bracket tournament. You could technically have 2 teams from the same conference play each other in the finals. Does anyone know why they don’t use the same format as every other league?

The league only had 8 teams at the beginning and they didn't play that many games. The inaugural season the best team from the West was only 1 game in front of the last place East finisher.
People unknowingly argue for the NBA to change to the WNBA's format at the beginning of every playoff.

That’s what I figured. I guess I am surprised they haven’t either 1. Gone to the same format as other leagues now that they have more teams; 2. Gotten rid of conferences all together and just had everyone together to match their playoff format. Im not even trying to hate on it, I just didn’t quite understand why it is the way it currently is!

Sounds like that’s the only thing they got right. MNBA should do 1-16 and play even schedules throughout the league.

Yes they change the odds, but the top 4 teams are going to consistently win and almost always hit the over, and the player props just adds to the winnings.
