I think that same thing is wrong now. It has to be the pressure, boosters, politics and soft pampered culture that destroy these guys.

it's the soft culture that the insane booster culture creates. i still remember "country club atmosphere" way back in the chrissy simms era

the only coach that i could see possibly dealing with that shite would be saban, and i think even he would crack. that's why i wanted him to go to UT so badly (that and watching him go against spread teams every week)

Yeah, what was wrong was Texas brass told Charlie to fundamentally change the culture and had him process a ton of kids (setting you even further back) and then got impatient w/the rebuild never giving him a chance to finish. He also never had firm ground to stand on due to idiots like McCombs shite talking him as if he was some random assistant that was elevated w/o zero HC experience.

I have zero data to back this up other than what I have seen, but when Texas high school football went pass happy it seemed to coincide with Texas college football going in the shiter.

It seems there are still good players coming out of Texas (Jamaal Adams) but when i think of Texas football I think of Baylor, Texas Tech and to a degree AnM...throw the football every down.

yeah it was a disaster but not really because of charlie strong. Ut boosters can say they want to win all they want but until they commit to doing what it takes to win, they just want to say they want to win and continue to meddle

Yeah but thats about the time of the pivot from running every down to slinging it every down. Art briles (there were others) at Stepensville HS really changed the culture of football in Texas.

it’s possible they both get fired in 2019

I’d lean toward Herman getting fired first due to 1 year head start

Herman is surprising, I think we all bought into the Herman hype. Taggart is not surprising, he is in over his head and IMO is not an elite level coach. That was IMO a bad hire from the get-go.

Considering he walked to South Florida and won immediately, I’m thinking the problem was Texas and not Strong.

I think Herman wins 9 games this year though

Where do those 9 wins come from?

I'll give you Tulsa, Baylor, Iowa State and at Kansas. I'll even give you at Kansas State and at Texas Tech

That's 6 wins. Here's the REST of their schedule:

#17 USC
#16 TCU
#6 Oklahoma in Dallas
at Oklahoma State
#14 West Virginia

You really think they're winning three of those 5 games?

why are black head football coaches so unsuccessful in major college football?

It's really insane - I feel like they should have a 25% (at least) recruiting advantage in the talent-laden south.

If I'm a black kid from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana or Tejas I'd prefer to play for a black head coach all things being equal.

Is it because they tend to hire coordinators that they are friends with and who aren't ready for primetime?
