There was a study a few years ago explaining how the human body was only capable of throwing a baseball so hard. (I forget how fast). I'm sure the human body has a limit on the 100M as well. 9 flat might be it.

There's idiots on Saints Report who think that Bolt can go under 4.00 in the 40...

No. We will not see a human run 100 meters faster than 9.0 ever.

That's an awfully long time to be so sure.

There are physiological laws of the human body. Without serious genetic enhancement, we will never see this.

There are certain things that are not going to change. Like the refractory period between cardiac contractions, maximum speed of nerve impulses, etc.. These are just laws of physics when you come down to it. So I can add the caveat that no humn will run faster than 9.0 on Earth. Though that really was understood and did not need to be said.

I'm pretty sure people said the same thing about the 4 min mile and the 10.0 100 m.
get some perspective

That's totally different. Look at how the slope has flattened out with regards to record times in recent years.

Either the track in Berlin was extremely fast, or Tyson Gay got a hold of some goodness.

With the right mix of drugs anything is possible.

The one thing that I noticed is that athletes must be taking much smaller doses of HGH or steroids now than in the '80s. Ben Johnson ran a 9.79 in the 1988 Olympics and that would have been enough to win for a very long time.

well, we already see elite athletes enhance their natural abilities with all types of hormones and chemicals. While i don't i'll see a sub 9.00 in my lifetime, i wouldn't say it will never happen. New and better drugs plus evolving track surfaces, shoes, etc make the ceiling of a sprinter's speed artifically high, imo.

plot it by year and it's not so flat.
~.5 sec every 40 years, with lots of broken records (10) since 91.

We're not going to see sub 9 in our lifetimes, unless we decide to allow doping, wind assistance, and other "modifications"...
