Why'd they replace the crystal football with that ugly trophy?

I understand the BCS system is no more.. but why'd they get rid of the trophy? The new one is hideous.

There are umpteen different trophies. The new ugly one is the one that will be given on the field. The others are awarded later. The Crystal Trophy is not going away, but you will hardly ever see it.

There are several trophies. Grantland Rice trophy, AP Trophy, Coaches Poll trophy, now the people organizing the playoff made a trophy.

The new trophy looks better up close. The playoff committee needed a new trophy for branding purposes.

Cholly Mac was the guy who lead the coaches association when the trophy came into being. Basically created the thing.
