odom was pretty talented, physically, in his youth
he's 6-10 and still plays point for stretches (and has since he was a rookie). he's got skill

No doubt he is very talented. I just do not think he could ever (even if fully focused) be good enough to be a #1 option on a strong playoff team.

A top player has to be a great scorer. Odom is a great complimentary piece but not a great scorer. Some guys just don't have it in them to go for 20-25 each game like Iguodala and Odom.
Now Odom does have a unique skill set. But having a unique skill set often leads to players being very overrated (McRoberts, Tim Thomas).

Lamar Odom has a unique skillset for his size and has a great all-around game but isn't particularly elite in any one area.
His post-game is just OK. His shooting ability is just OK. He's a good, not great rebounder. He's a good, not great passer, and so on and so forth.

He doesnt have a killer instinct. He is a pushover and a dumbass as evident by the fact he pays like 20 people's rent and cell phone bills.

Odom's priority list:
1) the beach
2) candy
3) being on tv with his stupid wife
20) basketball

I actually got to sit next to him on a flight, I can tell you he was very down to earth. I talked to him about almost everything but basketball.

Agreed. Which is why from the second that Gasol trade went down, I was one of the only ones saying it wasn't immediately a bad trade, much less THE WORST TRADE EVER!!
