Consumers are rational creatures that respond to incentives.

Incentives:

1.) Tickets prices for games are getting higer
2.) TV Prices and getting lower
3.) Games are delayed by television related time outs which creates downtime for those at a sporting event.
4.) Technology has allowed folks at home to watch multiple games at once, participate in fantasy football leagues, and see the game in much clearer picture than before.

Everything over the last 20 years has been moving to this point. Reverse one of those incentives and attendance will increase.

65 inch 240 Hz LED tvs for 1000 to 1500

70, 80, 90 inch Sharp & Samsungs for 2800 to 5500

Home theatre 100 inch projector screens for $700 to 1K married to very good projectors for 2K

Ticket prices constant rise

Heat

Concession prices/product grade vs better home fare

Parking Fees

Travel, Hotel, Dining, Time used to and fro

Better network coverage, pre, during, and post-game than ever before

etc..

I don't get the ticket price argument. Don't you feel as though ticket prices have always been expensive, of course relative to the year and the times. In 2003 I remember people complaining about ticket prices.

because of people like her...

I went to a Panthers game last year and was kind of turned off by the way people behaved.

My biggest issue is traffic. Especially when leaving a night game.

Cost of tickets, food/drink and parking not helpful either.

NBA games are always better live, football is only better live if it's a big game.

Saw a photo of a sign at the game last night "premium beer" which consisted of Tecate, Bud Lime-a-rita, or Bud Strawberry whatever: $14

Ticket price, concession / beer / food price, having to get to the game early, traffic when leaving, etc.

At home you dont have to deal with the traffic / hustle and bustle nature at sporting events. You can get a case of beer for the price of 2 beers at a pro stadium. You can cook youre own food, whatever you want, and not have to pay a ridiculous amount of it. And you have the best seat in the house when watching it on TV.

Dont get me wrong, I love going to see games played live at the stadium. But a lot of us on here and huge sports fans. I can see why the average sports fan would rather watch it at home than at the stadium.

I get absolutely nothing out of being there in person. I am still separated from the action by barricades and a lot of other fans, who often stand up in front of me and force me to do the same. I far prefer the comfort of my home. I have not been to a live sporting event in years. I get offered tickets to LSU football and Saints tickets all the time and turn them down every time.

traffic really never bothered me. But I as I got older and started to pregame (drink) I started to ride a bus from Mobile to New Orleans for a Saints game.

it leaves from a mall parking lot which is right off the interstate. It is a lot more convenient. You do have a little bit of a waiting period when you meet back up with your group after the game but I've never had a problem with that.

I think the biggest problem I've had is that my friends are all married and they don't want to go to a game hardly anymore. I'm not getting on that bus by myself and riding over and going to the game.. by myself.

my last girlfriend didn't like pro football so I never took her. I tried but she never wanted to go...

my brother lives up in New York and my sister and her family are usually busy on the weekends. Her kids are active in team sports almost year round.

I'm fricked.

there are tons of idiots at sporting events now. they enter a stadium and all rules of society go out the window. miserable experience. I haven't beeen in a stadium yet where this doesn't happen. I'll stay home.

Not sure, but I'd be fine with my team (not LSU, Tiger Stadium is just too old and storied, just speaking generally) having a 60,000-65,000 seat stadium designed to hold all of the sound. Don't spend the money on the huge stadium, just make it loud and top of the line. Always fill it up and have a better venue.

I like the dome just fine. It gets loud when there is a reason to be loud.

ETA: I go to Saints home games. Season tix in the Lower Terrace (end of row). Live in Lakeshore so I can leave home 1 hour before the game and am usually home within an hour of 0:00. My wife buys beers, but I quit drinking alcohol at the dome due to prices.

When it gets; more expensive, more difficult or a little less enjoyable, I will give up my tickets.

I'd be cool with my team had the same size stadium with less seats. Have each seat be a real nice comfortable seat with plenty of room.

Its the economy stupid! Can't buy tickets that continue to escalate in price while living on food stamps and unemployment.

wtahing on tv is better. You can see it from a couch with just friends and family. More comfortable. The players and action look more epic. In the stadium they will look like ants....

Not as much fun.

It's not so much the competition from TV, it's just that watching all the games on TV makes all games, including live ones, less enjoyable.

I still like NBA live. YOu get a good picture of how fast, skilled and athletic players are; and how lazy some players are.
