I do think knowing the personalities is a big part of enjoying racing.

Absolutely, but the one thing not mentioned yet is the lack of Americans in F1 and Moto GP. These series would be bigger in America if the broadcasters and news outlets had Americans to promote—it's only natural. While there are some larger-than-life personalities who transcend nationality, like Valentino Rossi, in general people like to root for racers of their nationality if they are in the series. I rooted for Michael Andretti when he made his sad attempt at F1, I rooted for Scott Speed even though he didn't seem to be a real likable guy. I rooted for Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards. With no American pilots, these series are a tough sell in America.

I'm hoping that changes now that Haas is on the grid. I want there to be an American driver in F1 as much as the next fan but I want one that will be successful not just to have one. I still think at some point Rossi will make the jump back and Haas has also signed Santino Ferrucci to a driver development deal.

I would like there to be an American in Formula One again, but it's not something that dominates my attention.

Likewise, I will never understand the people who watch the Indy 500 (probably the same folks who watch only one IndyCar race a year) and 'only' support the Americans.

I like diversity in motorsport, it's one of the sport's best attributes.

I noticed that Alex Rossi is being coy with regard to his future. Andretti wants to re-sign him but he's leaving his options open. You can tell he'd really rather be racing in F1. I think there's a chance he could replace Haryanto at Manor later in the season, after the IndyCar season is over. Wehrlein and him at Manor would be pretty exciting.

I thought he was with Herta? Or are you counting Herta part of Andretti Motorsports?

I should have said Herta but yes, Herta is part of Andretti isn't it?

They are a satellite team, so technically no but realistically yes.

I guess you can consider Truex part of JGR as they share information, although its a different team and owner.

APPLE Rumored Interest in Purchasing Formula1

Not to hijack the thread, but I just came across this 'rumor.' That would definitely increase F1's presence in the US market ...

Well it's no secret that Bernie will sell CVC's stake in the sport sometime. He's getting really old.

Interesting and definitely thought-provoking, but just an unfounded rumor at this point.

Whoever (and if ever) CVC sells its stake to will be getting a 35% share of the sport.

Cause at one time, people liked "Stock Car" racing. It gave fans the opportunity to argue over manufacturers.

Plus Rednecks needed something to do after lunch on Sunday

This isn't a post your picture thread. Why did you post a picture of your family?

There you have it. A sampling of one.
Do you fully understand NASCAR?

Any sport.

Except cricket. Who can understand that.

A sample of one is sufficient to disprove something. If I say that all people are shorter than 8 feet tall and I find someone who is 8'1", that disproves my hypothesis.

True enough.

Why? It's just going around in circles.

All you had to do is watch the first 20 laps of Pocono to see the incredible amount of strategy going into every lap.

Logano was adjusting the track bar inside his car, but only for turn 3, then putting it back for the other 2. Yes 2.

Drivers turning the engines on and off during a caution very early in the race to possibly shave maybe a second off their next pit.

It's like any sport. Looks simple and possibly boring until you learn the intricacies.

So. Well. Said.

NASCAR with one car is boring. F1 with one car is exciting. NASCAR with 43 cars is exciting, F1 with a dozen cars is boring. You know 90+% of the time who is winning Monaco by the first turn . Most of the time in NASCAR you don't know heading into the last lap. Then throw in the NASCAR drivers aren't attending Elton John galas the night before a race..might be a Brooks and Dunn reunion though.

You used the one track where overtaking is virtually impossible, the one track where Formula One goes back to 1929 for one weekend each May.

The 'no-overtaking' people are so dull.
