Wouldn't inducing 27 first pitch outs be the most perfect? 27 pitches, 27 outs doesn't get better than that

So just what would you call a game where the defense doesn't allow any batter to safely reach first base?

An "almost perfect" game?
A "no baser"?

Wow I guess my joke was that bad. No I don't believe that a person has to strikeout instead of ground out to keep a perfect game going.

Also, if allowing 0 runners out of a possible 27 is the definition of flawless, or without flaw.

Waiting for OP to ask..."And why is the count even if there are two balls and two strikes? Three balls isn't a walk, but three strikes and you're out. Shouldn't a 3-2 count be considered an even count?"

I think a perfect game should be 27 one-pitch foul outs. At that point the ball is never put in play in fair territory.

I was just thinking that.

Hard to be more perfect than 27 foul balls I'm a row. Especially if the catcher caught every one behind the plate.

But still impossible.

What if you had 27 straight pop-ups or line-outs to the pitcher?

That way, only one player was directly involved in every out.

Perfect.

Good thinking, Rummy.

No one, not even the catcher, would touch the ball. Every pitch would result in a lazy pop up right back to the pitcher. Only then can the pitcher declare his game was truly perfect.

Get Selig on the phone.

This is exactly what baseball has been missing all these years.

Have to have a pitch to call interference.

Otherwise, the batter is just hitting the catchers mitt on a practice swing.

27 line-outs to the pitcher would be more awesome to watch.

LINK

quote:

A batter CAN be called out for interference, even inside the batter's box. The source of this misconception is the rule - 6.06 (c) - which says a batter is out for interfering with a catcher by stepping out of the box or making any other movement that hinders the catcher’s play at home base.

According to this page you can have interference due to:

batter out of the box
coach interference
on-deck batter or other player

So the question is can you hinder a catcher before a pitch is thrown.

With that logic, I think a perfect game would be 27 pitches.

How can you strike out 27 batters with 27 pitches?
