pretty sure that was viewed as their weakness

Tyler Wilson would have to turn the hogs around, and geno is kind of considered a system qb.
Geno is a damn good one, and I agree on his talent, but the Dana approach actually hurts him.
At least Barkley and Wilson play under center.

I agree with this. That's the gripe I have about him. Dana's
system reminds me of what made Timmy Chang all of those
Texas tech QBs seem better than what they were. RG3 is
may be one of a few that can transition to the nfl after being
in a spread system.

Stanford has been in BCS bowls each of the last two seasons.
And they're still a good ways away from actually competing for a national championship.
Clemson made a BCS bowl last year, would you call them a true national power?

If you don't think they're a good team, you don't know football.

The reason why USC was overrated is very simple: all of these pundits saw the talent they had but didn't recognize the lack of depth they had behind them. Probation will do that to you.
This.

Sounds like you are refusing to acknowledge he said "national power" and not "good team"

National Power to me, means a top 10 team, top five if you want to be really exclusive.
So I'm not refusing to acknowledge what he said, I'm saying I consider any team that can beat USC four years in a row "A National Power".

I'd say Stanford is legit right now. Not an easy out for anyone they play.
I don't see them beating Oregon though. I don't think they match up well against that style of offense.

Stanford was 1 win away from being in the BCS CG the last 2 years Yeah, they lost that game to Oregon pretty bad both times, but they were very close. That maybe as close as they get any time soon. Clemson had 3 loses lat year, so they weren't really close.
IMO to be a national power, a team would have to be in the hunt consistently, but as Stanford showed, if you get an elite QB, even second tier teams can compete for the top 5 and maybe a NC

Also, Oregon's new QB can flat out play.

Thing is, I don't think Stanford's DL has either the speed or the depth to consistently do that.
I remember Tennessee looked good against Oregon two years ago in the first quarter. Then just ran out of gas. No depth. I would be very surprised if Stanford had more depth on DL than Oregon has on OL.

If Stanford's DL was not that good, and our O-line was just that bad (in other words, not fixable) we'll lose 5 games this season instead of the two I thought we'd lose (Stanford, check. Utah ___)

I think it's the latter, but I'm taking the injuries into account, and the subsequent shuffling. Also, I know you don't have the depth you're accustomed to having atm.

Not really. He has never proven to be a big game guy and he shits the bed everytime he faces a team that gets pressure on him.
Ohio State? THE DRIVE - his freshman year?

Last year was very close against Luck and frankly, USC lost on that pass breakup on Luck's final drive which resulted in a bogus PF penalty for helmet to helmet to extend Luck's drive...and then USC fumbled in the endzone in OT.
This year...injury. 3-year starter center stood on the sidelines while the backup was blown-up on every single play driving the center of the line back into Barkley - it was pathetic. One play the NG sacked Barkley at the goalline by just jumping over the center. The guy couldn't hike the ball and block at the same time...he was useless...and that game became exhibit A on how important the center position is. The whole offense gets messed and you can't do what you want to do from the snap.
While I do think Barkley is overrated and I've always maintained that he will be nothing at the next level...this game wasn't simply a case - "he couldn't handle the pressure." This wasn't pressure from the edges...this was the center being driven back into him after every damn snap. There was no pocket.
Frankly Kiffin and Co. should have shotgunned and rolled Barkley out like they used to.
Terrible play calling when you know the foundation of your offense is getting blown up by the noseguard.

I was actually thinking the same thing during the game. But then again, I've been all too familiar with criticizing the offensive playcalling for my team...
...not so much anymore, thank god
