I don't have a rooting interest in a home town team, don't really understand the rules, and I've never played nor know anyone who has.
The only hockey I'll watch is Olympic hockey.
Also, I love hockey movies so there's some interest there.
And I used to love this game.

Moved around a ton growing up and got to play ice hockey almost all the way through high school. But I converted a bunch of people to hockey fans when I was in college in Louisiana. Hockey is so money.

baseball is slow and therefore boring to watch unless you are drunk..and even then, still hard to watch..plus the whole steroids thing..turned me off towards the sport in general
hockey is hard to watch for me because of the puck being so incredibly hard to follow.. that and there really isn't much hype around hockey being from Nola (the Brass was cool though)..used to watch the Stars and Modano as a kid..
both sports are awesome events to attend in my opinion, granted I haven't been to an NHL game..but I assume they are much better than the Brass..

Guess I could have just saved my typing and quoted this...

Baseball is fun at the park, but too many games and seamhead stat dorks are borderline unbearable. The sport benefits from having nothing else going on in the summer.
Hockey is sick in the building, but I can see why people otherwise don't care.

Never watched a game of hockey growing up but now love it. That shite is awesome to watch.
Watched and played baseball (as well as other sports) growing up, but never liked it. I enjoy NCAA baseball but don't love it. I can't stand MLB, shite's boring as paint.

I really don't like how Baseball will not modernize to cater to television audiences.

What... Please elaborate....
Or do you mean change baseball to another sport

baseball just fricking sucks. Its slow, no drama, no action unless someone gets a double or better. It just a sport for old boring people. It's not even as good as soccer and I hate soccer too. But at least there is constant moving in soccer.
Hockey is fricking awesome.

Don't care for hockey because I never played it as a kid and have no real connection to the sport. Im sure I'd be a huge hockey fan if I lived up north.
I can watch college baseball all day but can't watch MLB unless it is the playoffs or right around the playoffs. I just can't get into a game when there are 162 games in a season.

I completely understand people not enjoying hockey, or any other sport for that matter, but it annoys me when people jump into a thread (or irl conversation) to say "hockey sucks" or "who cares?" It's childish.
I like both sports fwiw.

I think it's just that a lot of people grew up without it, so they can't get into it. I have the same problem with the NBA.
they had a minor league hockey team in Mobile (the Mystics) starting in 1995. And I have to say, not really knowing much about hockey, it kicked arse going to those games.
they played at the Civic Center which isn't that big anyway so the crowds were never outstanding. The biggest crowds I've seen there were for South Alabama basketball games in the late 80's. They were really good when I was about eight years old
the other big crowd was for a WCW wrestling PPV and Monday Night raw... lulz.
but the Mystics had good crowds for the first three years despite not being that good.

Yeah the crowds for the Icegators was great for about 7-8yrs, then the fad passed. But I still enjoy going to a hockey game at the Cajun Dome. If there was an NHL team close I'd get season tickets. But you'll never see me at a baseball game. Not worth my time.

Love hockey.
Baseball for the most part bores me. If its a good game im alright but for the most part, nah.

the Mystics faded out in 2002. But yeah, there wasn't one game I went to and left thinking it was a waste. Sat right on the glass a few times, very entertaining.
I don't really hate baseball but when I was a kid I loved it. I enjoyed playing it almost as much as football and that is saying something. I watched a lot of Braves and Cubs games on TV. But about the time when I lost interest in playing the sport, it was all downhill from there. I remember watching Game 6 of the 1995 World Series to see if the Braves could win it all. I really believe that was the last time I've watched a whole game.
