re: Why don't the Bengals cut ties with Shemir Stewart and just sign Hendrickson to a deal?

which is a clause the Bengals added recently to mirror other teams around the league.
This is 100% wrong. They’ve put it or attempted to in every rookie contract since 2000.

It’s called the “Pickens Clause”. You feel free to Google it lol.

My understanding is he is the first player that is being asked to sign that contract. He is 1 of 1 player.
Stewart should say that since he’s the only one who’s being required to sign such a contract, he’ll sign it, but it’ll cost the team an extra $1 million per year. That’s the cost of that provision. The Bengals shouldn’t be the only team that can screw over a player by requiring such a provision. The Bengals should be bound by the standard player contract, which doesn’t include that. If they want it, let them f*cking pay for it.

Wait. You think he loses the money just for signing the contract?

I don't think that's allowed per the rookie pay scale.

Your link has nearly nothing to do with Stewart’s situation

That language appears different
Is not the same as
The second part is where the public opinion gets involved. Thats new.

He thinks it’s good business practice to:
1) expect guaranteed money even if you’re a dumbass and so really dumb shite, sometimes against your employer
2) someone making an investment to just be ok with #1
THIS is what we’re dealing with here lol

You do realize all first round picks get guaranteed money at their slot value right?
The Bengals knew when they selected him they would have to guarantee whoever they took with that pick that amount.
quote:
In the NFL, first-round draft picks receive fully guaranteed contracts, meaning the full value of the contract, including bonuses, is guaranteed to be paid to the player regardless of performance or other factors. These guarantees apply to both the base salary and any signing bonuses, ensuring the player receives the agreed-upon amount.
They should've just traded the pick away and took a 2nd round pick rather than throwing it away if they dont wanna pay.
