You think secretly suspending Jordan helps the bottom line?

The dude retired and came back twice.

He was obviously capable of it.

I just don't believe it. Everything presented so far in the documentary has convinced me he was not capable of stepping away from anything. It does not seem in his nature to even think that way honestly.

in other words you believe what you want to believe no matter what

You just want to buy some dark mob conspiracy cause that's fun, but keep ignoring the trauma caused by his dad's murder.

I'm still trying to figure out where minor league baseball fits in all of these theories.

If Jordan is supposed to be serving some top secret suspension, you would figure he would have been ordered to lay low, claim a fake injury, say he needs some time away to clear his head or something like that.

I don't think Stern suspended anyone. I think Jordan got involved with something that would have painted him and everyone in the league in a very bad light. Of all sports, professional basketball players lifestyles in the 90s seemed to have multiple children, women, substance, and pretty much every other vice under the sun. Someone maybe was going to blow the lid off of all that also. Its hard to know. It may not have anything to do with the Mob. It maybe worse than anyone could imagine.

what loss did sponsors take? his. commercials still ran. For crying out loud he hasn't played in like 20 years and is STILL a top pitch man and his shoes still sell out

I thing the NBA and Magic were bought off to create a public service narrative. Magic was at the end of his career anyway.

What? Magic was coming off leading the Lakers to a Finals run. Heck, Magic returned in 95-96 years after he retired and was still a good player despite being 36 and inactive for five years.

As for OP, he was burned out and his father was killed. One thing that gets lost was the Olympics were the previous summer.

He'd played the 91-92 season, then gone into the Olympics and come out straight into the 92-93 season. He hadn't had more than about a month away from basketball in two years at that point because the Bulls were playing in the Finals.

My bottom line is someone was going to go public with information on him that would have damaged MJ and the league and his sponsors so badly that they were all ok with him just sitting out awhile and taking big financial hits. And that in itself is pretty remarkable. But there was some reason other than reporters and fame for everyone to be ok with him laying low.

you keep saying this, but what hits did they take? Give me a number and you also can't explain why his sitting out helps the situation.

I was thinking maybe more like a dead prostitute or live boy. Or something really incomprehensibly terrible actually.

Laying low? He didn’t exactly go to a cabin in Montana. Every at bat he took for the Barons was on sportcenter every time he went to the Bulls facility to shoot around became national news.

In fact the reason he went straight to double a is because the a league wasn’t prepared to handle the media.

Like I said, they dedicate an entire episode on this.

Well here is an indication of some financial loss:

NBA Final ratings by year

Please notice the big dip in numbers in 1994 and 1995 when the Bulls were not in it (but disregard Bronco chases )

I had a feeling you'd say something about the ratings but you think that's a financial hit because you don't understand how it works. They do not get paid on a rating point by rating point basis. Also look at the products that are advertised. Its about brand recognition. Of course the sponsors want higher ratings but that doesn't mean it has necessarily a tangible bottom line loss. Notice how 1994 is about the same as 1990 and both are lower than anything since 98. Its the NBA and their sponsors making less now than in the mid 90s?

I just wish the little dead gay boy or prostitute or farm animal or whatever would just speak up on this thing. Im sure they got a ton of hush money, but it would be a great time to resurface now with the documentary going.

He just didn’t have the mental toughness to go to 8 straight NBA Finals.
