Why do you think Jordan took a hiatus away from basketball?

It looks like we will never get a straight answer on this. I simply refuse to believe the company line on this. No way a guy that competitive leaves at the top. How did all his sponsors let that happen. Somebody in the reporting business with some guts need to expose this and give a plausible narrative for what happened.

Stern suspended him, but couldn’t say he suspended him

We've gotten the straight answer a bunch of times.

He was mentally drained and his dad was just murdered.

You don't think Sam Smith tried this already?

well if you have been watching the last dance you can tell jordan was tired of all the attention and media scrutiny. I think they are going to go more in depth next episode

His dad was killed by the mob due to Michael’s gambling addiction and the NBA didn’t want that little story blowing up.

Lebron would never

And there wasn't anything left for him to prove.

I mean magic had aids and bird spine was no longer inside his backbone and they still wanted to play. This whole story on MJ is incomplete and probably never could have been covered up the way it was in todays world. Its amazing how long the story has held up.

You’re probably not gonna get a more in depth look at why as the last episode and the ones coming Sunday. It’s funny to joke about the NBA “suspending” him but they obviously would have just swept it under the rug and done nothing instead if he did bet on basketball

The whole series on ESPN is about how the guy cant avoid competition. No way he just sits on his own. Some seriously dangerous people must have been involved in this to detract him from wanting to play.

Because there is no story.

It's not like the 90's were a time where shite wasn't getting leaked.

Also, do you really think David Stern would go along with a player telling him "you can't make it known that you suspended me"? I mean, c'mon guys, if you followed the career of Stern at all, you would know that he would tell MJ to frick off and then tell the media that he told MJ to frick off.

He got tired of winning. Then he got bored and wanted to win again so he came back.

That’s your prerogative if you want to believe something sinister always happens

His dad was murdered, that coupled with burnout after getting bad press for the first time during the 93 playoffs I think he was burnt out and overwhelmed by grief

Magic retired the day he announced he had AIDS. Bird quit as after a few years as a successful coach and neither of those guys had the person they were closest to in the world was murdered

There are a number of reasons to believe the story is not accurate:

1. Financial impact to NBA in season and a half he didnt play.

2. Ease with which he returned mid season wearing 45.

3. There wasnt any impending team change or problem looming at the time of hiatus (that is known publicly)

4. There are a ton of MJ out on the town/philandering/gambling tons of money stories.

The point is they were on top and still burned to play and compete. And those two guys say MJ had more of a "competition problem" then they did and no physical limiting ailments.

Michael Franzese went into as much detail as you would ever expect from the mob on this very topic.

What’s more competitive.. winning another championship or attempting to honor your father who’s just been murdered and becoming a professional in a sport you haven’t played in 15 or so years. And if the suspension was true, you think the MLB would’ve welcomed him with open arms considering the legacy of Pete rose
