Why did the Braves get rid of Travis d'Arnaud??

I’m baffled by this move to get rid of Travis D
Sean Murphy is an ok catcher but he has been garbage at the plate and it seems like he is always injured.
I don’t understand this move unless Travis wanted out or it had to do with unloading a shitty contract or something like that but it just doesn’t make sense to me unless it was strictly a business decision because of his contract or whatever

AA said they thought they would need that money for financial flexibility due to Strider, Jimenez, and Acuna not being available to start the year

$8MM hit is all. Love him and appreciate what he was for the Barves.

In AA we trust.
And you could have just brought this up in the catch-all Braves OS thread.

Payroll Flexibility, they would have had close to 23 mil tied up with the catcher position. Murph never got going last year, missed a large portion of the beginning of the year and seemed like he couldn't get going. I love Travis, he has been special for the Braves, but 8 Mil for a backup catcher just isn't going to work with other team needs being the priority.

Travis is also 36. That has to be considered also.
Love TDA. He'll always be a legend here. But it was time. I have a feeling he's gonna be Snit's replacement..

He didn't hit in the second half and will be 36. Father time is undefeated.

The ATL thread exists for a reason

Because AA is anti club leadership.

Would absolutely love that. I’d imagine discussions have already been had with him about that as well.

Atlanta's top hitting prospect is a catcher. That is factored in as well.

Partied with D'Arnaud in the Phillies Minor League system. Everybody knew he was going to the show, even at A ball, even when he was hitting like .250.

He's always come off as a good dude.

His arm was also becoming a liability. I hope Murphy turns things around because I do hate losing a guy like d'Arnaud. Definitely a glue guy in the clubhouse, which sometimes is worth losing out in other aspects of a players game.

He has had several (more than 3) concussions lately
