Why are there not more Astros fans in Baton Rouge?

I have been a lifelong fans since my childhood in the 1960's, and I have really enjoyed a 5 hour trip to Houston to cheer for the Astros over the years! To this day, I still follow them closely! With the advent of Cable TV in the 1980's, many baseball fans in Louisiana became Braves and Cubs fans because they were on cable TV every game! But guys, The Houston Astros ar only 5 to 6 hour drive away!!!

Every Astros game used to be on TV on channel 38 in Baton Rouge and the Zephyrs were the Astros AAA affiliate for a while.

There was no TV or radio of either of the closest MLB teams to La, until FSSW.
AND, the starting 3rd baseman is a former tiger great.

I’m off the bandwagon. I was a huge Astros fan growing up when every game was on TV. I lived and breathed those 2004 and 2005 playoff runs. Then they stopped showing the games on TV and I lost interest as I got older.

Are they still on radio in Baton Rouge? Used to listen to Milo Hamilton call their games on the radio in BTR.

Also, TBS not having the Braves on helps the Stros. When I was kid, everyone was either a Braves, Astros, or Cubs fan.

My dad was a giants fan because the Shreveport captains were a farm team for the giants and we lived in the Shreveport area. Maybe it’s got something to do with the zephyrs being an astros farm team ?
Plus it’s close, somewhat.
Your post doesn’t fit your title btw. Your saying we should be astros fans cuz it’s close, then you ask why we are astros fans.
Did I read that correctly?

Used to listen on WIBR back in the early 1980’s. My aunt and uncle who lived in Houston hooked me up with Bill Doran and Terry Puhl. Got to hand out with them and get photos. 1986 tore my heart out.
