I too thought he would be a dynamic TE in the NFL

He’s never been that good. He’s just a specimen and a great athlete.

His pro stats are eerily similar to college. He is what he is.

he probably would be, but Bruce Arians doesn't use a TE very well

OJ Boward has never been that great.

He’s a recruiting ranking and the fact that he randomly had his two big games in national championship games in college.

Somehere, Tom Lugenbill and Mike Mayock and every other recruiting/draft hack are still saying OJ Howard is better than Hunter Henry. That shite actually happened went on for years.

This might be a decent argument, except for some guy named Gronkowski.

Yeah. He had some big games at Alabama like those 2 Clemson title games. But he also had plenty of games in which he disappeared. They weren’t entirely his fault but he never turned into the monster TE he looked like he could be.

But I still don’t get why the Bucs didn’t trade him. He’s proven he can at least be a 300-400 yard type receiver for some team.

LSU had a guy like him - DeAngelo Peterson. On paper he was a specimen. 6'5" and 250, but the dude just couldn't play football. Barely had an impact in college, never made it to the NFL.

My fantasy team would disagree, Gronk has been solid all year

Mediocre at best in college, no reason to think he would just translate to the NFL despite his physical traits.

TE is one of the toughest positions to play in the NFL.

Very inconsistent hands and I get vibes that he doesn’t prepare very much.

That said, I could easily see him being a 700 yard guy on a team that cared enough to get him right.

Maybe he’s not that good. They see him in practice everyday

He sucks. He’s wasting his own career.

I don't think Peterson was that big or even that much of a physical freak. He was just more of your tweener that was too big for WR but not quite big enough for TE

I noticed him a few times.

OJ has all the measurables, but I always thought that he lacked the tenacity to be an elite tight end. He showed flashes at Bama, and helped us win a NC, and almost another, but he lacks the necessary grit IMO.

People asked the same question that OP is asking when he was at Bama, but at some point the common factor has to be recognized.
