re: Why are so many players now putting “III, IV, Jr., Sr.” on their jerseys?

Depends on the player and the situation. I completely get if you're the kid of a former player (see: Griffey Jr., even though I don't think he ever did). If you're throwing our Sr. and you're the only one of your name, it's silly.

what about David sills V
I've definitely noticed the trend as well, I guess they want to be different. Which is ironic, because either them or their parents didn't feel like a "different" name was necessary.

I see some of it as maybe fractured and rehabilitated relationships with a dad, and once they reconciled, it's done as a tribute. Just a guess.

It's still stupid. His last name is Sills. He's the 5th David not the 5th Sills.
It irks me

This.
The suffix isn't part of the last name.

To be different. For attention.
Because when Willie Snead's dad, grandfather and great-grandfather are on the field at the same time, we know which one is which.

Posted on 10/29/17 at 4:46 pm to FightinTigersDammit
Ken Griffey Jr definitely did and was the only one to legit have to because he played on the same team as his dad when he came in the league. shite his dad batted one spot behind him

How else am I supposed to know if it's Terrell Pryor the NFL player, or Terrell Pryor the infant child when they catch a TD?
