A physician is the one who reported him to the authorities. A prosecutor had him indicted on felony charges for the injuries. Seems like doing that to a 4 year old is frowned upon by society.

I always think, "No. If you were fine, you wouldn't think beating children is OK."

That's beside the point when talking about specific injuries.

I understand he was 4.

Actually, it's accepted by most of society. They just change up the language to make people more OK with it. Instead of "beating" or "assault", most people just say "spanking" or "popping". See how much better and softer that is?

ETA: Ray Rice didn't assault his fiance/wife, he just gave her a little pop. See how that works?

How are you equating spankings with knocking somebody out unconscious?

You get welts and bruises that sometimes break the skin from playing paintball. It hurts, and a parent certainly shouldn't do that to their kid, but it's not serious injuries.

The kids age is extremely relevant whether you think it is or not.

Beating your own flesh and blood 4 year old with a weapon when you're sober is worse than punching a drunk woman who's coming at you when you're also drunk imo.

America has messed up social norms

We are talking about the seriousness of the injuries.

That doesn't change whether the kid is 4 or 10.

That's what I'm talking about when saying it doesn't matter that he's 4.

You just proved my point by calling them "spankings". It's assaulting someone who is six times smaller than you and who, unlike a wife/fiance, has much less capacity to leave a situation. But since it's uncomfortable for you to think of it as an "assault" or "beating", you simply use words like "spanking" or "popping".

People need their new outrage of the week.

Goodell got them good. I knew he'd find something to make them forget about the Ray Rice deal, inside of a week no less.

Most people voluntarily play paintball. If I get hit by a paintball when I'm not playing, that's assault. This isn't that hard.

Okay.. hitting somebody with a stick on their backside that causes welts is not the same as punching somebody in the face knocking them unconscious.

Better?

I'm not arguing whether or not Peterson assaulted his son. Clearly he did.

I'm arguing the extent of the injuries seem to be greatly exaggerated in terms of seriousness.

I mean, I've explained that several times, but people keep completely missing the point of the thread.

Well, shooting someone isn't the same as stabbing someone but they're both violent assaults.

You fool.

So if Janay Rice wouldn't have hit the rail in the elevator and been knocked unconscious, and instead would have taken the punch like Mayweather and walked off, would you be OK with the comparisons?
