Why Are NHL Hockey Helmets so Plain?

Honest curiosity. Why are they so plain? Is there a rule or league policy against this? College hockey programs have much cooler helmets. Every team has the same helmet with a small logo of team. Only the goalies have designs on them. Why not allow franchises to make their helmets more noticeable and unique? Anybody have any idea why they are all identical?

I'm not a fan of the Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, etc. helmets that copy the football program.
It looks weird.

Hockey uniforms are largely some of the absolute cleanest and sharpest across the board in major American sports in my opinion. No need to mess with that.

Because Hockey is played by men, not flashy divas.

You're asking this question about a sport that had to fore players to wear visors for eye protection.
People tend to think MLB is the sports league most stuck in it's ways but NHL gives it a run for it's money.

Football and baseball helmets traditionally are smooth shells with few contours. Placing an insignia or a logo has always been easy. Hockey helmets have always had several ridges, making that sort omg thing more difficult. Kind of like a bicycle helmet.

I don’t see how allowing for bigger logos or stripes on the helmets makes them any less of men or divas lol.
