Matt Harvey is on team Italy. Both his parents were born in America. But his grandfather loved the situation from jersey shore so he qualified

Wait what. Basketball still has a long way to go to get on baseball's level internationally.
Baseball has been the national sport of many countries since long before basketball went international

Now, multiple top 5 players in the world are international

Next you’re going to tell me the Israel team is mostly American Jews…
The idea of this is to expand the geographic footprint of baseball. There are not enough good players domestically to fill these rosters.

Point being, something that was viewed as pointless has now become reality
Theres no reason why we shouldnt be trying to expand the sport into europe, no matter how pointless it seems to be now

Shouldn't you think it's racist to prop up phony teams in European countries when there are already BIPOC places like Cuba and Japan who can legitimately compete?

This would be like having France in the tournament and filling up the roster with Cajuns from Louisiana lol
Um nooo
Unless their parents or grandparents have come from France
Some 5-8th generation Cajun can’t play for France

That's a take

Baseball: most international American sport
Doesn't count because it's Latins and Asians, not Europe.
Like, it didn't even occur to him.

Congrats on some broadcasting deals in China. Widespread support and grassroots level baseball is long entrenched in more places around the world. How many countries is basketball a top 2 played sport and for how long. A few Eastern Bloc for a few decades. Baseball has been that way in essentially the entire western hemisphere plus Japan for a century.
But, I do grant being the 8th most popular sport in France is still probably more lucrative than being #1 in Venezuela

Jaxtyn doesn’t need the WBC he’s already won three World Series rings just this year and it’s still only March.

And part of the reason. It’s also why a whole flock of players from Curacao are “Team Netherlands”

Because it's not about where you were born

It’s kind of obvious that you don’t know many first generation Americans. If one of them has a child that child has tons of family in the home country.
Baseball is not a world wide game. WBC is trying to grow the game in other counties. What better way than using a child from one of their own who grew up in a country where they play the game?
I just cannot imaging having a problem with is. You act as if they had open tryouts in America and took any players they liked. No, the players have roots in that country.
