Who will Cubs fans blame for their inevitable postseason failure this year?

In 2003 every single Cubs fan blamed Steve Bartman for their team choking against the Marlins. Before any Cubs fans say "Not all Cubs fans blamed Bartman" go ahead and watch any documentary about the Bartman incident, there wasn't a single Cubs fan in that crowd as Bartman was being escorted out that was defending him and not angry at him. Bartman was treated like absolute scum by Cubs fans and it was disgusting. Never has a fanbase exposed themselves as such embarrasment as the Bartman incident. So yes - every Cubs fan did in fact blame Bartman.
In the 1940s they blamed a goat for some reason.
Who will be the scapegoat this year? We all know the Cubs won't win the World Series. You can take it to the bank.

The fact that the postseason is a crapshoot and even the best team (which the Cubs were this regular season by far) won't win the World Series 4 out of 5 times.

So if you didn't shout down or challenge the drunken idiots who were railing at Barman....you blamed Bartman? Not a logical conclusion IMHO.

I would agree but that was such a weird and unprecedented series of events, instigate by Alou screaming and pointing in the stands. I don't have time to break it down as to why I take issue with the sentiment you have there, but I've been to probably 70 games at Wrigley and met hundreds of Cub fans and I can absolutely attest what you saw that night is in no way a standard representation of Cub fans any more than the US Ryder Cup fans are represented by the idiots cursing at Rory at that event.

Exactly. Some perceptions of fanbases continue to exist only because other fanbases want them to continue to exist...as it allows them to use that to reaffirm how they want to feel.
Another one that continues to exist, but is also untrue, is that most of the fans at the games don't care about the game.

I've rooted strongly against the Cubs ever since the Bartman incident. That was a travesty. The documentaries I watched about it just made my hate for the Cubs stronger. Uncivilized, uncalled for behavior.

I doubt the Cubs win this year but they have built the foundation and will win at some point int he next 5 years
