LSU.

Both lines are looking brutal and unless something changes, they will just not have SEC level depth for another couple of years.

The Saints can technically grab talent in FA, LSU has to recruit OL and DL when it is probably the hardest position other than QB to start day one.

This is my main concern.

And if O goes, Alleva has to go with him, right?

I don't see the egos that allowed this hire in the first place to eat crow this year unless things get really ugly.

I could see us going 8-4, winning big in a bowl game, and then lying to ourselves about next season.

At least with the Saints, I know we will bottom out sooner than later.

if the saints go 0-4 i don't expect Payton to last the season.

This is a good point regarding free agency.

The whole "LSU recruits itself" mythology is gonna be put to the test, I fear.

That is one of the worst sayings ever. If that is true Louisiana didn't have any talent in the nineties.

The Saints no doubt.

SEC is a mess outside of Bama, so one good coaching hire can pay big dividends soon. Question is how long will LSU put up with "good but not great."
Always loved coach O but as a head coach that's what you get.

The Saints won the 2nd most games of any NFC team from 2006-2011.

Let's look at the last two regime changes in N.O.

DITKA'S LAST YEAR IN N.O.: They had the 2nd pick in the draft the following year
HASLETT'S FIRST YEAR IN N.O.: Won their first playoff game in team history

HASLETT'S LAST YEAR IN N.O.: Katrina Season. Had the 2nd pick in the draft the following year
PAYTON'S FIRST YEAR IN N.O.: NFC Championship Game

This is an easy question. Whichever organization fires the GM/HC or AD/HC last is in more trouble long term.

Pro rebuild will always be tougher than college. An entire college roster can turn over in two years.

Saints need a new roster and all while Replacing a HOFer at QB.

A decent coach could have LSU contending almost immediately. The Saints have basically nothing going for them.

True.

But LSU has similar results.

Curley's last season: 6th straight losing season.
Dinardo's first season: Bowl win against some midget...
Dinardo's second season: 10 wins and division co-champs

Dinardo's last season: Implosion
Saban's first season: Winning season and bowl win
Saban's second season: SEC champs, Sugar Bowl win

Either team can do a 180 very quickly. LSU has a better chance because elite quarterbacks are so hard to find. The Steelers went 20 years between Bradshaw and Roethlisberger. The Niners still haven't found the next Steve Young. Green Bay had a very forgettable franchise between Starr and Favre. Dolphins are still waiting for the next Marino.

Man I don't know if I agree with that at all.

I mean take the saints for example. They were having about as horrible a season as is possible by NFL standards in 2005. Displaced , practicing in parking lots, historically horrible. The next year they were in the NFC title game. Because of the parity I think NFL teams can make pretty big jumps provided they have a competent guy running the show. Hopefully Benson sells and we tank and get this process started.
