BS. I've said this about Purdue and Michigan, and that's it.

The dumb Irish fans (yes, there are many) would. The ones who realize judging a coach off his first 5 games at a school is stupid wouldn't. And the Athletic Department wouldn't be restless either.

I disagree, I don't think anyone imagined they would start out this way.

This is what I was leaning toward. I guess the best way to settle this is by Who do you think wins the Game. The Ducks 2nd team or ND!!!!

I like Notre Dame, I wasn't expecting them to do much this year. Brian Kelly will win at ND though.

I think the Athletic Department is smart enough to realize judging a coach after 5 games is pretty dumb (especially since it's not like RR's first year at Mich where they were coming off a Cap One Bowl win, this is a team that finished 6-6 last year).

in many eyes it was a disappointing 6-6......
I never said they were judging him after 5 games...........I disagreed that they wouldn't be restless. Are you saying you don't think there isn't any concerns or restlessness to how the season has started from the Athletic Dept?

I'm not overly surprised ND is 1-3. I knew they'd beat Purdue, I knew they'd lose to Standford, and I figured they'd lose to MSU and beat Michigan. But in fairness, Michigan is much better than I expected they would be.
And outside of the Stanford game, ND hasn't been "out" of any game. It's not hard to get a team turned around that loses by 7 versus a team getting blown out.

Yes, that's what I'm saying.

Tough call. Easy to say Chip right now, but he inherited a good program from Belotti, whereas Brian is inheriting a program that has stunk or been mediocre for 10+ years.
Brian has the better track record of success (at 3 different places at 18 years as HC vs. Chip at only 1 school for 2 years). But Brian has the much tougher gig right now.
As for ND this year, their record so far shouldn't be a surprise. They were 6-6 last year, and they lost the only 2 guys that kept them from going 2-10 (Clausen and Tate). They have also played probably the toughest schedule of any team to date with not 1 Div II team on the schedule.
It's going to take time for Brian just to teach the ND players fundamentals - over the last 3 years, ND has had the worst fundamentals of pretty much any team that I've seen.
I do prefer Chip's version of the spread (more run based) to Brian's (more pass based).

You do realize that ND's administration has hired the following coaches in the last 30 years:
Gerry Faust (a HS coach, literally)
Bob Davie (def. coordinator with no HC experience)
George O'Leary (fired for resume lying)
Ty Willingham (what needs to be said?)
Charlie Weis (career #2 guy not fit
Of that group, O'Leary was probably the best hire.
So, I think their AD office is used to screwing up so they're probably not restless.

Yes the program has stunk.
But, am I alone in thinking there is enough talent there to be winning? They have underacheived of late compared to the talent level of what is on the roster.
Kelly inhereted a 6-6 team yes, but he also inhereted a team with more talent than a lot of top 25 teams.

Agreed. I think they have had better recruiting classes than the Ducks have been getting for sure.

There's talent, yes... talent that doesn't know how to win.

REALLY??? ANY player on ANY major college team has won for the last few years, They come from schools that have a winning attitude. That is an EXCUSE. LSU players KNOW HOW to win, They need to be COACHED at a different level. Same as ANY school.

I really like Chip Kelly and what he is building up there in Oregon. But Brian Kelly is a proven winner, plain and simple. However, I think they are both very good coaches. Slight nod goes to Brian though.

Yes. The ND players do not know how to win. They want to win, but they don't know how to yet.

Maybe, but were the Ducks players recruited for Chip's systems - both offense and defense? That matters a lot, in addition to player development.
ND's roster is full of offensive guys recruited for a NFL type system, not a spread offense. And ND ran a 4-3 defense the past few years, but is now running a 3-4. I'm not positive, but I don't think ND has the body types at DT (6'3, 300+) and DE (6'5, 280) to run the 3-4 defense right now.
Also, I'd bet my left nut that Chip Kelly has taught his team excellent fundamentals. Whereas there is no doubt that ND's players are underdeveloped - their OL plays with really bad fundamentals (though appear to be improving already) and their WRs were pretty poor route runners and blockers under Weis.
It's going to take Brian Kelly longer than a few spring practices and 1 fall camp to get those guys playing with better technique.
